Trouble getting my colonized block to fruit
    #28014800 - 10/24/22 07:26 PM (2 years, 2 months ago)

Hey all,

I am trying to get my colonized block of golden teacher to fruit. I put the block on alfoil in a tub with perlite at the bottom. It has been 2 weeks and no fruiting has occurred and I am starting to get concerned. I think all the white stuff is mycelium and not cobwed mould, but it does look a bit puffy.

Any advice or recommendations to help the fruiting process?

Thanks heaps!

that’s way too much foil, just use enough to cover the base of the block. it’s probably somewhat bacterial. make sure you keep it glistening with moisture at all times, mist it directly if need be. just avoid pooling water

how did you inoculate this? spore syringe to grain bag?

Thanks for the tip on the foil. I will use less next time. Okay, I will increase the misting.

I used a spore syringe in an all-in-one grow bag.

2 weeks since fully colonized in the bag? I’ve done all in one bags before to success, I wait til the bag is 30% colonized then shake it to mix the grain with the sun and let it fully colonize. Once I see it’s fully colonize I open it and did what you did. You’re on about the right time frame depending what variety you are growing. You’re mycelium does look a bit bacterial but nothing to the point of not getting any fruits. You should also have some FAE holes in your fruiting chamber for a block that big. Nothing major but at least some passive fae

i’d rip off the excess right now. with that much covering the perlite you’re probably affecting evaporation from the bottom of the tub, it looks like the whole thing is covered.

spore syringe to grain is notoriously contam prone. you can get lucky but you lose more than you win. here’s a good read on why

That is pretty much what I did. It has been 2 weeks since taking the block out of the bag and putting it in the tub. I am just doing manual FAE at the moment, I am regretting not putting holes in the tub beforehand. I will give it some more time and hope for the best.

I have ripped off the excess foil so hopefully that will help. Should I do anything about the bacteria? Or just wait and see.

Thanks for the link! Super helpful :ooo: Seems like I am just another beginner making a classic error

you can’t do anything about contamination once you’ve gotten it, you just have to get clean spawn the first time. bacterial stuff will still fruit so im sure you’ll get some mushrooms for your effort

everyone has to start somewhere! i recommend pf tek or grabbing a pressure cooker & trying out agar if you’re feeling up to it. it’s worth learning if you’re planning on doing this long term imo

Okay cool, I will wait and hopefully some mushrooms grow!

I will check out the pf tek method and try out agar. Thanks for your help! Much appreciated
