I am in the 5fth flush of moby dick mashrooms and everything has been fine until yesterday morning when I opened the monotub to find a sticky white vein like substance on top of the cake. It is like taken from the movie Venom. I just took some pictures and closed the tub again. On the afternoon I went to fan some more and when I opened the tube it was completely gone 😱. I have never seen something like this before. Anybody knows what could have happened?

I'm gonna have the same guess as the first commenter and say it might be a slime mold. The name is misleading since they're not actually fungi, but more like an amoeba with a complex life cycle (to simplify it as much as I can). This one seems to resemble the ones that show up in terrariums sometimes. It would also explain why it was gone later, because these things can move on their own.
But back to the point, why did it show up in your grow? While I'm not totally sure how it got there, one of their main foods is bacteria. Your grow is old enough that it's probably getting hard to keep contams back, so that slime had something to snack on for a bit.
-------------------- I know I'm a fool, but that's why I keep trying to learn.

Update (10/24/2022): I think it is trying to escape

The other day I saw a documentary that talks about that slime mold is super intelligent (I also thought it was yellow but this is plain white). I never expected to see one myself 😳
