Which of these pan cyan growth patterns is preferable? * 1
    #27953117 - 09/16/22 04:25 PM (1 year, 4 months ago)

The second one just looks better to me, but I'm going by cube standards. First one was really fast, just threw a PF puck in there, but it looks even thinner without the flash on my phone, stand far enough away and you can't even tell you're looking at a colonized jar.

Bump, because I'm just about to get into pan cyans. For all I know, whispy growth isn't a bad thing. I had some pans going a few years back and they were very whispy.
Good luck with your grow.

They fruited well? I have seen people say that wispy and fast is better but I just feel like most of the time I see pan grows they tend to look more like the second pic of mine.

Fruit the first one now and give the second one a shake. If it recovers OK then fruit both. What people say is more often than not based on anecdotal experience at best. You might loose a couple of bucks cause one of them is going to trich out or does nothing much but at least you will see for yourself what is going to happen in this case.

Alright, I have even read people suggest to just toss thicker growth jars like the second but I didn't wanna do that, but I was curious which one I would probably have better luck with. I'm going to do both but right now I just have limited jars and good manure and tub space left til I get more soon and wanted to know which one I would end up focusing on first.

For what it's worth here a couple of photos of spawn that I used. First is a pan cyan, second a pan cambo. Both worked

Maybe you could help me one more time. I'm using your monotub (did one for each of these growth patterns in this thread) and they're both colonized fully. One hasn't pinned yet, which is the thin growth.

But I noticed this in the corner just today.

This is the only part that looks like that.

Then I saw this.

I know for a fact that pan mycelium was in those jars I spawned, but still, seeing that growth, plus the pin look is sorta concerning me, haven't grown this species so the pins remind me of cubes though. Ever seen that? I meant to case it by now too, going to have to do that in a couple days when the lime is here.

Must be cubes. Never saw such a pan pin set and this is not even taken the fact into account that it is not cased yet and in a mono tub.

Keep us posted.

Yeah...I'm a little surprised because this one colonized a bit slower than the other (which is undeniably pans) but started pinning basically immediately after fully colonizing.

I still have no clue how any cube myc would have gotten there though, I only remember doing two quart jars for this that came from a g2g from a pint of spawn.

This is the other tub though, for whatever reason it is wetter than the first one, maybe that's why it didn't pin first

Well unfortunately the one with cubes has a bunch of blobby mutants which sucks because it made a hell of a pinset, but they're still growin so I'll take it. I'm wondering if it having pan myc in there made it like that

Anyway, here's the other one that's definitely pan.

Is this normal? Had some bruising from water droplets falling I assume, but after a few days of being colonized while I was waiting to see some pins before casing, this patch in the middle appeared and has been getting a little bigger everyday. Doesn't seem like a contam to me but I'm also not fully sure what to look for yet with these.

And yeah I know I need more air flow in this, I used poly not micropore tape, the other with the cubes looks a lot less moist for some reason though so I'm just gonna take some of the poly all the way out with this one

That’s what we call trichoderma and what we lovingly call β€œfucked”.

You positive? I was just gonna say the greenish hue in the middle doesn't actually look green to my eyes, it was bruised blue underneath. I have actually never gotten trich on any of my grows but I have seen some of the pan myc make weird fluffy areas like this on agar. Its also not spreading very fast at all, first saw this a few days ago.

Also I don't know if this is recommended but I just washed my hands and dipped a finger into it gently and swabbed it and it just collapsed like mycelium, and there is nothing on my finger but water that smells like mycelium

Daaamn. I thought it'd be powdery not feel and even smell just like mycelium. Well, I had a good run going so long without ever getting mold on a grow lol
