Psilocybin vs NAC for OCD?

I'd be glad of your thoughts on this please? I'm looking to tackle OCD and anxiety. People with OCD have high glutamate levels. Psilocybin lowers glutamate. So, I presume that is why mushrooms help? So, NAC also lowers glutamate. I have been taking NAC for 2 weeks (1800mg/day) and after a few days have noticed my anxiety/depression is much better, as is tension headache and brain fog. (but not OCD). Do you think that, if I stick at the NAC for longer, that it will eventually help the OCD. In other words is NAC as good as mushrooms for all these things? Thanks.

Psilocybin doesn't lower glutamate per say, from the research I've seen the effects differ throughout the brain, for instance psilocybin often increases glutamate in the prefrontal cortex and lowers it in the hippocampus. It's also not uniform across all subjects like a pharmaceutical that specifically modulated glutamate would be, it's more just a trend.
Neurotransmitters themselves don't mean much, you can pump your brain full of neurotransmitters but if they're not in the right areas and targeting the right receptors you won't get the desired effect.
IMO a lot if not all of the benefits of psilocybin aren't due to what it does in your brain, but from the experience that can occur when you're brain is in that state. If you trip and watch Finding Nemo you'll likely have very different after-effects than if you took some mushrooms and received extensive psychotherapy into past traumas and irrational thought patterns.
Some people might find micordosing mushrooms helps their OCD, other will find it makes it worse. Mushrooms in any dose make my anxiety exponentially worse.
If NAC hasn't helped your OCD yet I doubt it will. If it's helping with your anxiety and depression, it very likely will have a rebound effect when you quit that leads to period of even worse anxiety or depression.
Things that work quickly or instantly often have a toll that you have to pay down the line. Psychedelics tend to work the opposite way, you pay the fee up front (usually in the form of a difficult trip) and the benefits come after

Thanks feevers. I will stick with NAC for a couple of months and if no joy, I will try mushrooms. There is nothing else to try at the moment. I have to try something. OCD is a nightmare.

It really is. I don't meet other people with it but it's a curse... the constant itch in the back of your head when you don't follow through with your trigger is insanity...
Ontop of that I always look a fool... flicking light switches 4 times, flushing the toilet 4 times, flicking the tap 4 times...
However I do find when I'm tripping on shrooms I barley do my triggers or don't do them at all.

Yep. So your OCD just comes back again after tripping does it? What a bummer. Some people seem to be cured. I have yet to try it.

Minidosing or microdosing is a consideration. That may reduce but not eliminate triggers, while not being too intoxicating.
NAC is great and I swear by it, it does cause digestive issues in some. The mental effects of NAC were a dream for me. But its effect on mucus did give me some diahrrea which is what made me stop it. If you don't get that problem, it'll probably have very few other side-effects.
What about the combination? Tripping on psilocybin, and NAC for when you're not tripping.

NAC has been great for anxiety, depression, mental clarity, headache relieve - best for 30 years. But, am finding memory is worse and yet NAC is supposed to improve memory! :/ IBS improving too. Your effect on mucus, did it increase or decrease it? I have mucus problems and was hoping to decrease it, but not helping there so far.
I'm afraid to macrodose and was hoping micro would cure OCD. Would I need to stop NAC whilst I microdose? Thanks.

Its effect on mucus is to make it looser and more watery. It is known as a mucolytic so in the long-run it should reduce mucus. However there may be a tolerance to that effect. That's related to its structure as a thiol.
In my experience, I found it worsening my IBS but I'm glad it is helping you.
