Cake too dry?

This came from an albino p.e. liquid culture.  I followed the shoebox tek from Philly Golden Teacher. I kept it a dark closet, temperatures must have fluctuated from 65 to 80F. On the 10th day I cracked the lid open. Main part of the cake was very wet, with a little pooling.  I removed the pooling with some kitchen paper and misted the corners, which seemed comparatively dry. The day after it looked dry and misted a bit again.  Today it looks like this.  Is it moist enough? I just see a few droplets of water here and there but not evenly around the cake.

Indoor temps are 68 to 77F, humidity around 45-50%

It's ok to mist to get that even layer of beads, just don't spray sub directly. Make sure its getting ambient light, you'll see pins soon enough :mushroom2:

Welcome. Your cake is NOT looking good. Unless it's the lighting, I see both bacterial signs and mold

Edit: what I thought was mold (bottom right) might be bruising from misting or aggressive FAE. Are you fanning that thing or something?

Hard to tell conditions from the pic, but it looks ok to me. You preferably want tiny droplets all over like this:



I think you'll get some fruit from that box. Don't overthink it

Thanks for noticing.  It might be the lighting.  I've taken another look at the cake.  On the edge of the tub the mycelium looks grey, not blue, but you're right it's concerning.

I haven't fanned.  Left about 2 cm of space for the lid.  I've of course opened the lid to take a look at it and some pictures.
