should i bin these jars?
    #28010748 - 10/22/22 01:42 PM (2 years, 2 months ago)

hi
i have some jars that appear to have stalled, a couple of them have a slight yellow tinge to the myc, i think this may be just myc piss though. i'm new to this, but i have just sucessfully grown four other cakes that are fully colonised and consolidated quicker than these. they were started a week after these ones. i inoculated these ones on 11 sep. i'm really asking if i should just bin these or could i try to use them as spawn. or shoud i just put them take the lids off and see what i end up with? i had a totally noob idea to just break them up into plastic food boxes, would this do anything though?

thanks for any help.

Pics would help. Are these pf tek jars? If they're bacterial you definitely don't want to break them up and spawn to bulk.

The super dark brf one with yellow myc is probably not going to make it. You might get some fruit off the others, though. They all look bacterial. Definitely don't break those up.. how long did you steam for?

about 2 hours, did everything like my ones that came out good. the only thing differert was i accidentally, out of pure clumsness, squiretd too much LC in these jars. if they are bacterially infected, should'nt i just bin them?

In the pic of 4, the first and last one look like they might give you something. Bacterial spawn can still produce shrooms.. you could try to get fruit to clone or print off them. Or if you need the jars/space then chuck em

Why are your jars upside-down?

Those are bacterial. If you are not emotionally attached to those, I'd just toss and start a new project

(bacterial spawn often fruit, even when spawned to sub; but once stalled odds are quite bad)

No, especially that you might also have mold in there that we can't see.

I'd suggest to fruit them in ziplock bags, each in their own bag if you really want to give it a shot (discard verm top layer + uncolonized parts of cake).

Still curious why they are upside down.

i read that putting them upside down can boost colonization in stalled jars. lol, i am not attached to them, luckily i have my other ones that came out fine. i was just wondering if they could be redeemed? beter to chuck than risk infecting my nice ones eh?

Do ziplocks - worst case scenario you get no fruits and lose nothing but 10 minutes of your time

Ziplocks tek

i read that putting them upside down can boost colonization in stalled jars, something about aiding gas exchange. if i try fruiting in ziplock bags, should i return the cakes to the jar and put a bag on top like below?

Fruiting in Ziplocks is where its at! Gallon-sized works best. Birth the whole cake in there, mist and watch the magic grow.
