Fruiting trays in Martha tent
    #28010250 - 10/22/22 05:19 AM (2 years, 2 months ago)

First post, first grow - have to say I’m very psyched- no pun intended. Hah.

Q: when transferring spawn to bulk trays in my Martha tent, is it as simple as the following?

make lasagna, cover until colonization (under the same cultivation conditions as spawning?), once colonization is achieved remove the tray cover and introduce fruiting conditions?

Thank you anyone and everyone for your feedback.

Cheers:mushroom2:

What are you growing?

Don't use a Martha setup for Cubensis

Because you can grow cubes in a shoebox with likely less effort would be my guess

Cubes are not oyster mushrooms. They really don't need that much FAE which makes tubs low maintenance fully automated environments just perfect for em.

A tent requires more work to keep good conditions. It's not impossible I've seen people do it, just pointless IMO.

Why do complicated when you can do simple?

cubes are happy in a tub with a few holes. you can use that tent as shelves for tubs, and later if you get into growing gourmets you can hook it up with a humidifier and all that. but for cubes less is more

More effort with no climate control. My tent has controls set up to mitigate contamination

I should have mentioned that was an assumption, based on zero experience in a tub or tent.

Tent seems simpler to me. Less repetitive opening, fanning, spritzing with water, ext. Temperature control, specific to environment, rather than being subject to direct heat from a heating mat or just whatever the ambient temperature in the room. Idk. Really, I don’t. But I’d be interested in knowing how many people that have mentioned tubs are easier, if them, how many have used both tubs and tent for cubes and have experience in both to speak of - rather than basing claimed fact when it’s factually assumption. No offense to anyone here, I’m just looking for an answer from someone who knows from experience.

Thanks to all for your reply, truly.

I was under the impression that oysters are easier than cubes, all around.

No one has answered the question yet, not directly anyway. Haha. Posting this to hopefully redirect the conversation back to my specific question.

Hello friend, I've grown in both and I only run tubs or ziplocs now.

A humidified tent can produce decent grows:

Once it was dialed in it worked great, but was a small journey to dial in and there was the constant need to check/refill the humidifier reservoir.

Shoeboxes, monotubs, even ziploc baggies are way easier, take up less space and produce just as well (if not better) as a properly set up humidified tent.

For effort versus yield, a tent is just not worth it imo.

To answer your question, yes that is how you would do it. Spawn to bulk in a tray or shoebox etc, let colonize, stick in tent and fruit. You could probably put them straight into fruiting conditions while colonizing, that's how most of us do it these days for tubs. I haven't grown in a tent in almost 10 years though

Good luck

So anyway, uh...

no need for temp control just keep the room habitable
no need to fan, cubes like passive FAE
no need to spritz unless you didnt make the substrate right

i too started out with an automated setup. turns out tubs are automatic already
