Looks a little bacterial but still pretty decent.
Looks like you are bottom-watering with the lid underneath the cake there?

Fungusul recommended moving them to a water chamber, but I wanted to finish this batch with the perlite, just to see how it does. I was previously misting them from 3 ft above. After I made the little boats for the cakes, things really started popping.....
but the fruits are super small so far, and breaking their veils when they are like 4 in or less. I have one right now that just broke its veil and its only about an inch, and the head is like 4 mm across.

Ok, so I'm producing some weird looking mushrooms in the PF Tek chamber with the perlite. Also... the caps are wet and kind of slimy to the touch. I think I remember other posts discussing wet slimy caps as a kind of slime mold?

This specific pic is from a Mckenzii (sp?), but I also pulled off a Creeper that looked almost identical.

Ok, so I have a few questions on the PF Tek w/ perlite FC I have running right now. I'm setting up a water FC for my next batch of BFR jars that are almost ready, but I'm having issues / disappointment with the current PF Tek FC.
Out of 7.5 cakes, 3.5 (one split in half) are not really doing a whole lot. I see some pins on those 3, but they don't seem to be going anywhere, but are not aborts yet.
I'm having issues keeping the cakes moist. Since I cracked the lid, 4 of them started fruiting, but they are universally not that big. Each of these 4 has only produced maybe 2 fruits, and they look weird. Some of the bigger ones are showing cracks in their stims that you can see through, just under the caps and just before the veil starts showing up.
The perlite (as far as I can tell from noob eyes) is shiny. There is water, it's not a swamp (as far as I can tell). But the cakes start looking dried out if I don't mist them at least 2x a day (I live in the desert with an ambient rH of 45% in my grow tent), but I swear I remember reading here I should not be misting once pins start forming (right?).
I'm working on a spore print from the only (albeit smallish) mushroom that looked normal (McKennai) but I was hoping to get prints off the PFC and Creepers too.
Any help is appreciated and thank you!

Yeah, the water tub will help you keep moisture better, especially in your climate. It is safe to spray cakes that are fruiting, you just don't want to soak the fruits too much. You can set them in a lid and bottom water them if they need it. Try rolling in coir next time as well

Thanks! Next time I'm not going to go with perlite, it doesn't seem to be working well in this climate. I've been hesitating to bottom water anymore, cause all the pins and fruits seem to be coming from the bottom of the cakes.
Just waiting on my verm to arrive today, cause the water tub cakes will get a verm coating when they are ready to go.

If u live in the desert, misting 2 times a day isnt gonna be enough. Youre gonna have to soak your perlite and mist multiple times a day. I feel like the major downside to the SGFC is arrid environments. I find extra perlite helps too, like half the FC is filled with perlite.
The other thing that can help is to tape up some of the holes (like 25% or so), either with tape or micropore tape. Restricting some FAE will increase humidity.
Imagine trying to keep a tree frog alive in a desert. Its tough but it can be done with lots of water supply.

Funny enough, the FC is not SGFC style. It has only 5 little 2-3mm holes in the whole thing, and there all near the lid (this is a FC from a premade kit). So, there is barely any FAE without cracking the lid a little. When stuff was kind of stalling out, Baked recommended I crack the lid for FAE.
The perlite is shiny. I haven't seen any measurable loss of water in the perlite when I check it from the side. But the cakes just dry out anyways. I'll go to seeing if misting 3 or 4x per day helps.
The other thing that can help is to tape up some of the holes (like 25% or so), either with tape or micropore tape. Restricting some FAE will increase humidity.
I think, next time with this specific tub, I may need to add FAE, then restrict it as needed. My one of my other monotubs only has six 1.5 inch holes, and it keeps humidity like a champ. This PF Tek chamber just dries out super fast.
Imagine trying to keep a tree frog alive in a desert. Its tough but it can be done with lots of water supply.
Yeah these cakes are water hungry... I'm starting to think, based on what's happening in another tub, is that they are starting to look bruised not from over watering, but drying out too much, then having to be rehydrated left and right.
Hopefully a water tub will work better in the future though.
