Agar placement?

This may be a stupid question, but when you put a piece of agar/mycelium in a grain jar, where do you put it? Do you just leave it on top? Try to shake it to somewhere else in the jar? Side, middle, bottom, etc?

i usually shake it into the jar a bit, just enough to get it under the top layer of grains but really as long as the piece of agar is touching grains your fine. you can shake it to wherever you want it to be in the jar

I usually try to drop it so it lands upside down, sandwiching the myc to the top layer of grain. Sometimes it doesn't work out and lands right-side up. Doesn't really matter though, it's just an aesthetic thing. The myc will climb off the edge of the agar and crawl onto the grains. Once about 30% is colonized, I'll do a shake session to spread out the innoc points and let it fully colonize then spawn to substrate.

With some practice you can get it so it's mycelium is facing in and located against the side then you can watch it grow out nicely but it doesn't really matter.

ill tilt the jar before I undo the lid so the grains are at an angle like an agar slant. then when I drop the agar in I can do a gentle single shake or so to get the agar covered by grain in the most gentle way possible

I cut an entire agar plate into little squares, drop them to jar, and shake the jar.

Im with rumfor69, dropping it near the glass edge would be ideal to watch growth and ID any issues like infectious molds or bacteria.
Some people shake the jar after sealing it, in which case the placement of the colonized agar doesnt matter.

I also like to get the piece against the side of the jar so it's easier to monitor. Sometimes if that takes a little shaking you get little satellite colonies.

I've tried the "shake the hell out of it" method to get loads of innoc points but that was no faster than waiting for the side to be at around 25-30% done and then shaking. Plus its harder to spot contam that way.
