Desert Grower - 1st Time Issues. Advice Welcome :-)

Hello friends. Newbie grower here in the desert. I'm afraid my grow went from good to bad due to low humidity and dry air. Inoculating rye bag went well. It colonized quickly and healthily by all measures.

The tub fully colonized (coir, verm, gypsum) in about a week and turned bright white, water beads all over with visible humidity. I switched to fruiting, but the substrate wasn't very thick around 2" - problem. Upon exchanging plugs for polyfill and fanning, I noted the chamber began to lose its luster. There were darkening yellow metabolites on the surface quickly. The myc seemed very wet to me so I began to fan it 3x/day then 2x. Water would evap quickly even if I misted - not a lot of moving air in the room - problem.

Now the tub is darker and smells different, I believe it's drying/dying. Is this truly dead in the water like I think? I'd like to toss it and start over. Next time, humidify the environment directly, move the air, follow bubble tek, and minimize the # of holes open in the tub for FAE. The air here is notoriously dry. I'd love feedback and suggestions. Thanks!

Your boomer inflatable tub is most likely the issue here, and your spawn.

Welcome!
The big change was when you opened all the holes with poly. Close them back up.
Try to get a balance of humidity. If the tub continues to go soggy it is contaminated. As DERRAYLD said the contam starts in the bag/jar.
But if you can get the conditions back under control you may still get some fruit.

Thank you for the feedback. The spawn didn't show any signs of contam and smelled super earthy and healthy upon mixing with substrate after colonizing.
All signs point to environment issues – not enough humidity regulation. I'll plug the holes back up ASAP. In fruiting, the humidity should stay above 85%, is that right? Everything went downhill after fruiting.

I would recommend trying the unBODified monotub tek here.

Your spawn was contaminated. The dead giveaway from the pictures you posted is how the mycelium has the 'spiky' look to it, and those weird white balls growing in the grain aren't good. So, it wasn't environmental. That tub was doomed before you even spawned it. What was your inoculation method, spore syringe into a bag of grains? That's your problem.
Fanning is a useless, outdated method that does nothing but dry out substrates. There are plenty of growers on here from the desert. Your environmental conditions have little to no effect on the performance of a tub. A properly dialed monotub is its own microclimate fully capable of regulating and maintaining proper humidity. As long as you keep your grow room in the proper temperature range (about 70-75F) a *proper* monotub will do the rest (provided you have clean spawn, which you didn't). Those inflatable tubs are hilarious
Read through these threads on Common contaminants and their cause and how to visually identify contaminants. Once you're familiar with what a contamination is and how you got one, then look into building a Pasty EZ dial tub. It's pretty much the gold standard for tubs and you can easily build a couple for the cost of one inflatable and not get ridiculed for it.
