First plate has some kind of contam, second plate i don't see anything happening.
What is your agar recipe?
If using swabs, I would recommend streaking the plate in a zig-zag pattern. If using a print, I would recommend using an inoculation loop (you can DIY one of these easily) and streaking the plate in a zig-zag pattern. If using a spore syringe, I would recommend shaking up the syringe to break up any spore clumps, then squirting a small drop of solution onto the plate, and streaking the solution on the plate in a zig-zag pattern.
Of course, following sterile procedure is paramount to success. Flame sterilization, SAB, gloves, 70% iso, long sleeves, and making sure your hands are never hovering over an open plate are things you'll need to keep in mind.
For newbies I also recommend reading through all of Bod's and Pastywhyte's teks. See here.

maybe i just have bad eyes but that first plate looks ok to me, just more tomentose. iβd take a transfer & see how it looks as it grows out more. second plate looks way more suspect. are the rest of them still blank? i donβt see anything on the others

I definitely see tomentose mycelium. Some of the plates kinda look bacterial. I would let them grow out more.

glad i wasnβt just seeing things lol. germ plates have a tendency to look super weird ime. after a transfer you should have a clearer picture of what the culture looks like

i think the amount of rhizomorphic agar porn that gets posted on here also skews peopleβs perception of what agar should look like. growth on agar is super variable & a lot of stuff is clean even if itβs not a perfect rhizo monoculture

Bingo!
Its also noteworthy to mention that molds typically have a tomentose appearance and thus cubenis tomentose mycelium can be misidentified as a mold.

ime those tomentose molds always have really disorganized & weird growth when compared with tomentose myc & once you see the mold vs tomentose myc in person or side by side it gets a bit easier to tell

randomness is a great way to put it!! when those molds grow out it just looks⦠bad. even myc that looks bad has some sort of organization to it. i had some mold on a plate (ended up turning purple at sporulation) & the earlier white growth provoked a visceral reaction in me, it was so gross lol
