Noob question- why so small * 1
    #28006889 - 10/19/22 06:51 PM (2 years, 2 months ago)

Everything is going good but they seem to "mature" while still quite small. Are there too many cakes in a small SGFC? Maybe temp a bit high at 22C?

P. Cubensis if you're wondering exactly what they are.

Help a noob out.

Cheers, Gloorp.

If your grid pattern on the top were symmetrical, they would be much bigger, aye.

could be genetics. also could be that thing drying out. its hard to maintain moisture with that many holes

no such thing as too many cakes. you can pack em in, stack em up, more the merrier

Welcome To Shroomery! :mushroom2:

:imo: Not an expert in SGFC construction, but holes look a little too big. That would explain why it's hard to maintain good conditions. What size have you used for holes?

You could cover some of them with 3M micropore tape until conditions are improved.

Your interesting FC is pretty close to spec, decent fruiting in there.

Some strains just grow smaller mushrooms. When I grew Mazatepeca, if the FC was too humid, I seemed to get a lot of smaller fruits. When it was drier in the FC, I would get larger, sometimes massive fruits. I would argue some strains seem to be more genetically-diverse and seem to react more strongly to environmental conditions.

You can try play with the humidity levels, but sometimes its just the random multispore strain that does what it wants within its growing environment.

The holes are 1/4'' every 2 inches (roughly). I could cover 25% of the holes and see how it shakes out on the next flush.

Thanks for the idea.

1/4" hole every 2" is correct. I've used Basic Principles of the Shotgun Fruiting Chamber (SGFC) to create mine.

Instead of SGFC, you could try Water Tub Tek for fruiting BRF cakes. Better results and easier to maintain.
