Just before the new year I saw B Traven mention that they leave their no pour plates unwrapped after removing them from the pc and I decided to try it. Seems to be working pretty well. The first set I tried didn't have a chance to sit for very long so I couldn't really draw any conclusions but these two plates are from a batch that was removed from the pc on Jan 16th, so almost two weeks.

This is a picture of my culture drawer showing how I've been storing them. The red plates were done the day after the blue, Jan 17th. Haven't used any yet but they are still clean.

I still wrap with cling wrap or grafting tape after inoculation. Don't think B does though.

I'm still on that no pour glass petri, I do them in large pp containers with massive polyfil stuffed lid, 10 petris at a time and leave them to cool inside the container.
When I'm ready to work I open the large pp container in front of the flow.

I've been prepping dishes and leaving them for 3 weeks in the pp container and all traces of condensation dries off.

Just ordered some of these 75 mm plates to try out. Im gonna get a big pp5 container as the drying out box. Since these are so darn expensive they will be the final plates and holy grail for initial cleanup. Best of both worlds.

The thin cheap soda/lime/Chinese glass plates work great and last forever as long as you treat them like glass. When I stocked up they were like $1.50ea, last I looked they were like $8ea. YMMV

Glass plates have really gone up recently, boro has become cheaper than soda for some reason.

Cool write-up Hazyhorse. I've been considering investin in some glass for some time now. Even if I don't use it all the time, I'd use it to showcase my more aesthetically pleasing/novel cultures, so I should at least have a few sitting around.

You guys are making this way too hard on yourself and I get it, I used to tape each individual plate with two layers of micropore before pressure cooking.

Just wrapping in foil then removing the foil after the pc and leaving them unwrapped has done great for me. Y'all should give it a shot.

How I wrap and the results after sitting in my drawer for two weeks are a few posts back in this thread.

I looked into this last year, never got around to it.  I'm gonna do it now.  I still have success with ketchup cups, although I did just order more plastic petris.  I like the clarity.

Contams. unfiltered air. Are you using large holy grails or glass petris? Totally different uses.

Did you check the link, it shows exactly which plates I use; or my posts showing the unwrapped plates after two weeks, also shows the plates and complete absence of contam.

Or ditch the foil and make it even easier!

That was gonna be my next purchase if the method I described before failed. I imagine they work great and do make it easier. You do have to be careful unwrapping the foil and putting them aside so you don't open them. I figure with these holders it's as easy as flipping upside down and sliding it off the stack.

You keep posting holy grail pp5 screw tops in a glass petri thread. Why? I dont foil pp5s. I stack them up and pc them then screw em on tight post pc. No contams.

If you ever buy some glass petris you can see a huge gap between the ID and OD. its a big gap. SPG how much do those racks go for? Got a link?
