pinning directly on side of bag (pics)
    #13253453 - 09/27/10 12:03 PM (14 years, 3 months ago)

Hi,

So my latest grow is taking place inside of a mad bag.  I'm growing Golden Teachers and everything was going fine until the fruiting stage.  100% colonized, growth apparently stalled.  After three weeks, I decided to cut slits along the side of the bag and sprayed some water in (after doing some research).

Within a couple days, pinning was finally triggered (guess the environment in the bag "as-is" was not adequate enough).  The only slight problem now (as seen in the pictures above) is the fact that pinning has occurred on the very thin layer of mycelium that crept up along the inside of the bag (as opposed to the big, white chunk of substrate).

Will these little guys actually grow into fully developed fruits in this situation?  I thought they were supposed to grow directly from the "cake."  What exactly would cause them to favor the side of the bag where the mycelium is so thin?

Thanks in advance.

theyll grow anywhere the climate is good.

i suspect lack of fresh air is making them climb up the sides of the bag.

fruiting in a bag is just so-so

i would build a SGFC and take the whole thing out of the bag and onto a piece of foil

Agreed.  Strip the bag off and place the block in a fruiting chamber with lots of fresh air and light.  The pins that are growing from the bag itself will soon abort.

Dumb question.

I have the same thing going on with one of my bags. Could you pull them off and place them on the block in the SGFC and they’ll attach and continue to grow.

Or would they be worth consuming at that size?

1: this thread is old as shit, just start a new thread if you have a question. no reason to necro some old ass post for it

2: no they will not reattach or continue to grow. pins tend to have more actives in them in relation to their weight ( for example, aborted pins are apparently very potent) so they aren’t useless, though i personally don’t keep around pins/aborts unless i have a fuck ton on a tub because they dry to virtually nothing
