Should I be concerned?
    #28003437 - 10/17/22 05:09 PM (2 years, 2 months ago)

Hey all! This is my first grow and I'm just wondering if I should be concerned about how things are going. I'm growing APE. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all for the quick responses! I used a spore syringe and grain spawn bag. Once the grain spawn was ready it went into a monotub with boomerangs from northern spore. Everything was done in my bathroom after a good cleaning with rubbing alcohol and sanitized every step along the way the best I could.

Everything looked great in the Spawn bag. The contamination must have come from the transfer to the tub.

nope

clean spawn doesnt contaminate in the tub, and a mail order bag injected with spores does not make clean spawn

check my sig

You will find a lot of information about how to go about growing on the interwebs.  Some of it will work sometimes.  It seems like most people and trusted teks on this site promote best practices which will give you the best chance of success. If your interested in best practice you will want to look into building a Still air box,  Culturing spores onto agar plates, How to prepare and sterilize grains, Then using parts of that agar to inoculate your grains,  All before putting your grains to substrate.

If you spend time with all of those things you will have success.

People say a multi spore syringe straight to pf tek will be more successful. I have no idea pf tek seems like a waste of time to me.

Also if you buy enough multi spore syringes and premade grains you will also have success. eventually. maybe.

Good luck out there!

I honestly have no idea I haven't even read through the tek.  If it doesn't require a pressure cooker which is the biggest expense for doing grains, agar, and tubs it is probably a good point to start if your not sure your interested in the hobby.

i have a PC, a flow hood, i use LC and grow bulk, and i still use PF TEK often to get cloning material. its a work of genius imo

it would probably be a good idea to have a general understanding of the tek before saying it’s a waste of time lol. but yeah, if you don’t have a pressure cooker PF is the most consistent way to get healthy spawn & fruits. though i will say i think SGFC are a waste of time & effort when you can just break up the cakes & spawn them to coir in a shoebox or fruit them in ziplocks a la fhatser’s methods. even a water tub is easier for cakes than the SGFC that you’ll probably only use once before either quitting or deciding to go to grains & bulk

I'll defer to your experience just seems like it's alot of effort for a less productive grow.  A fast track to getting a mono culture makes some sense to me though.

i legitimately don’t understand how it’s still hanging around when there are so many options that are way less work (& more reusable)

@magicman90: if you’re comparing PF tek to using a PC with agar, grains etc. yeah it’s less bang for your buck since you can’t really expand cakes, but cakes produce pretty well on their own if they’re healthy. if you’re not using agar & sterilizing your own shit, imo it’s a lot less productive to go spore syringe to grain bag, then wait a month or longer for colonization (if you get that far) to then spawn it & get green mold after a week. MSS to grain is super risky & you’re way more likely to waste your time with it vs just starting with PF tek & getting some basic concepts of sterilization & sterile work down

@caladin: this site is full of awesome info & helpful members!! welcome to the shroomery & don’t be afraid to ask questions if you can’t figure something out
