Can I clean up a grain jar doing agar work?
    #28002522 - 10/17/22 12:12 AM (2 years, 2 months ago)

I have this grain jar I’m attached to because the growth was wispy and looked good to me. I learned from people here this is signs of bacterial contamination. Can I put a few grains to agar and transfer to clean it up?

You'll still get fruits off it. Just transfer like the best 3 grains from the top of the jar to individual plates to clean up and spawn the rest separately.
Might get some nice prints and clone worthy candidates in the process.

Ok will do. Does taking the lid off then putting 2 inch field cap coir and putting ziploc bag upside down over jar sound like a good way to fruit it?

You can top fruit it like that, yeah. Might be a pita to harvest some of the mush though.
That spawn looks only slightly bacterial. You'll probably get away spawning it to coir in a small tub, just prep the coir slightly on the dryer side. Either way, if you put some grains to agar first then at least you have back up if it goes west.
