Chanterelle Season has begun in southeast tennessee!(others)
    #2800146 - 06/16/04 08:16 PM (12 years, 5 months ago)

Hey guys, just got back from a very nice shroom hunt. I gathered about 1 - 1.5 fresh ounces of chanterelles. Not much I know, but the original reason for the trip was to go swimming, not mushroom hunting  I couldnt resist the lovely chanterelles tho, got some very nice ones, thick white flesh inside the stem with no signs of larvea or anything! I wish I would have had time to post pics, but I wanted to hurry up and get them sauteed and frozen  Also, I suppose chanterelle season may have begun before this, but I just found my first batch so it has just begun for me  Anyway, you guys have a good one and good luck on all your shroom hunts, wether they be for psychoactives or edibles

i would also like to tell you guys about another mushroom I found today. I REALLY REALLY wish I could have gotten a pic of it, but alas no camera with me. I was walking along the trail there to the swimming hole, and I looked down and saw a yellow mushroom that looked just like some of the pics I have seen of Gym. spectablis when the top is still closed, with the stem being very large and fat (bigger than the cap even.) However, I knew that gyms do not grow during this time of year but I decided to check the shroom out anyway. I looked under the cap to check out the gills, and to my surprise, there were none, it was a bolete. This thing was NEON yellow! I seperated the cap from the stem to inspect the pores more closely, and when I did, a neon yellow ooze got all over my fingers! It even stained my fingers, and my girlfriends who also handled it, neon yellow! This kind of freaked me out and I didnt much pursue investigating it any further, since I had no clue as to what it was anyway.

Does anyone know of a mushroom like this? It was growing out of moss beside a stump. This is hands down the strangest mushroom I have ever encountered. When I say neon guys, believe me, I mean NEON  Thanks a lot for reading this, and if you know anything about the ID of this very special mushroom, I am more than interested. Thanks a lot

It sounds like one of the species of Hypomyces that parasitize boletes.

Happy mushrooming!

Hypomyces? Cool, never heard of those  So these hypomyces can make a bolete turn neon yellow? That is very interesting stuff. Is it another fungus or bacteria or what? If you have any links on the subject I would like to see them  Thanks a lot Toxic Man
