modifying shoeboxes for stacking 1

ive been using unmodified 6L tubs for a couple of years and they are awesome, but on this run i tried stacking them to save space and im having trouble
the ones on the bottom are sealed by the weight of the ones on top and get less FAE. even two days after spawning the difference in recovery time is apparent (exhibit A)
another concern is the excessive condensation on the sides (exhibit B), which is probably a function of the restricted FAE but also the warmth of the upper tub preventing condensation on the lid (exhibit B)
ive decided to poke some holes. im thinking 4 of them, 1/8 inch, two on each long side right up at the top near the lid. posting this here in case anyone has tried this and had advice to share

I'm having the same problem. Lack of space near a light source requires me to stack. I hope a TC chimes in soon.

Did you try flipping the bottom lid upside down? Or maybe stack them like an + pattern?

I run modified shoeboxes.. I do 6 holes 5/16".. 2 on each long side and 1 on each short side.. you could get away with smaller holes tho, I've been using micropore.

I was using 2 layers and removing one when I saw pins coming in.. now I've switched to just doing 1 layer the whole time

yeah im gonna go with smaller holes to hopefully get around the MP. i found a skinny metal rod in my garden stuff, about 2mm
edit/

starting small. made these every 10cm or so, 10 holes in total. spawning more tubs tomorrow so we'll see how they like it

the eggs are in the nest. now that i look at them i suspect i made too many holes, but time will tell. im glad i made them small so i can just splooge some silicon in there if i want to close some back up

You're good at getting your subs level. Mine always turn out thicker at one end after I compress them. I guess I should invest in a tiny trowel instead of the larger set I already have. What's your method for leveling substrate?

You could try a pattern of holes similar to Pastywhyte’s Ez dialed monotubs.
you need holes at sub level, drilled 5” up from the bottom.
