Rye Grain bag not fully colonizing

So this is my first time attempting to grow mushrooms. I watched a lot of YouTube videos and read a lot of discussions here on Shroomery. And I feel confident enough to try it myself now.
I inoculated a bag of rye grains using a spore syringe of Cambodian Cubensis on September 3rd. Two weeks went by and I didn't see anything. I know it's just me being impatient but I was a little worried so I moved the grains around a little and I saw some mycelium. So I let it be, and by the 23rd it was about 50% colonized so I broke up the grains and spread the mycelium around. After I did that it took off, noticing visible mycelium growth every day for about 5 days, until it reached about 80%-90% colonization on the 3rd of October. Since then it stopped colonization.
I see a lot of droplets on the walls of the bag all the way up it. Also, I see a buildup of yellow liquid at the bottom corners of the bag. I'm wondering if I should go ahead and open it, do the smell test and proceed if it passes... or just call it a loss? Any input would be greatly appreciated, thank you everyone!
I am trying to figure out how to upload photos BTW. If I figure it out, I will add some photos.

Looks bacterial. the uncolonized grains and metabolites gives it away. You could take a chance at spawning in a tub, but I would just add 2" of sub on top, compress and close back. You still have a good chance for fruits tho.

Also, do you have any idea what could have caused it? Maybe too hot or something? it is usually about 72 Fahrenheit in the room I'm doing it in. I'm just confused as to why it was going so smoothly up to this point

Yup, and I wouldn't completely seal it back. Just fold over and close-pin. After you get the sub in there, just make sure the sides of the bag stays wet like that. The myc will prob take a few days to a week to make it to the top of sub. Keep us posted

No, sadly, kits are sold with the illusion of 100% sterility. No spore syringe can be trusted to be without contams unless you make it*. PF tek was engineered for this. You can shoot spores straight into pf tek with much higher success rates. Otherwise, you take the spores to agar, then agar to grain.

Yeah, with spores shot into a pre-made grain bag, this is a very predictable result.
Actually, you even got a little lucky. Could have been worse.
Bacterial spawn is VERY common. Even among people doing agar work. Ever have a bacterial infection? Things tend to go smoothly until they don't. In the case of cubensis mycelium, it will often be able to "out-run" bacteria for a time. Once the whole bag or jar is colonized, well, nowhere left to run.
I second the suggestion to give PF tek a try. It's also a great way to get spore prints, and fruits to clone for agar work.

Well that makes sense the way you explained it, hopefully I'm able to get some fruits 🤞 and if not, at least I learned something.
Lesson is to make my own sterile jars or bags... I am going to try the method with brown rice flower and vermiculite. Is this what you guys are referring to when you say PF tek? I have seen many videos about PF tek, including the 4 video series on Shroomery. But each video is different in one way or another, so I guess I'm confused as to what exactly is the PF tek?

yes they are talking about PF TEK. there are many variations of but the basic concept is 1 part brown rice flour + 2 parts vermiculite + 1 part water, sterilized and inoculated with a spore syringe. im partial to the one in my sig, second link. the first link would be good reading for you too
heres the first rule of mush cult. if you want to use syringes do PF TEK, if you want to use grains learn agar. i recommend learning both as they are both useful in different ways. i almost always have PF and bulk grows happening simultaneously, as PF TEK is the best way to get fruits and agar is the best way to clone those fruits
-------------------- Confused? Well now you can!

I just opened the bag and put 2" of substrate on top... It didn't have any crazy smells, it actually smelled like regular mushrooms to me. I will let you guys know what happens.
Thanks for all of the tips and advice btw everybody, I appreciate it.

Hey cozmyc I was just wondering... Do I keep it like this in the bag for the rest of the process? Just proceeded like usual, keeping the bag closed and allow it some fresh air a couple times a day once it starts fruiting?

Yup, but no need to manually give air, the partial fold in the top will be enough FAE. Only open if the moisture in the top airspace drys out. If so, just open and spray the inside of the bag, not the surface.

So I'm just keeping everyone updated. I went and looked today, and the mycelium doesn't look like it's really started working it's way up yet, but I'm assuming it will. It looks like there's quite a bit more of the yellow liquid at the bottom, and I see a couple of mushrooms growing off the rye grains, which you can see in the pictures.
