BFR cakes in fruiting chamber, chamber smells like a gym locker room.

I have a premade kit (yes, I know, first noob mistake), for my BFR jars. I have 7 in the kit right now, with perlite on the bottom. I made sure the perlite wasn't overly soaked.
Put the 7 cakes into the PF Tek tub a week ago. I cracked it open to have a better look at the cakes this morning and it smells strongly like a gym locker room. None of the cakes smelled of anything but mushroom before I dunked them.
None of the cakes look like they have any mold on them, they are all pure white.
It doesn't look like this tub has a ton of air flow. It only came with 3 tiny phillips head holes in the side. Humidity is is around 95% from what the meter is saying.
Can anyone tell me if this is normal? First time working with PF Tek.
Thank you in advance.

Post some pictures. One persons pure white is another’s off white. Smelling strongly of a gym locker room isn’t something I get from my happy tubs. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=13&Number=27155585&fpart=1&PHPSESSID=

There is some left over verm, so not 100% white.

they dont necessarily look bad, hungry for air maybe. i would A cut the foil so its not wider than the cake, B crack or flip the lid to give it some more air, and C ignore that humidity meter and use your eye ballz. the myc should have microdroplets on it and the perlite should be shiny

We have babies popping up finally! Still smells like a gym locker room in there though.
I cut down the foil, moved them closer together, have been misting to make sure they don't dry out since I live in the desert, and cracked the lid a bit.
I noticed pins on 5 of the 7 cakes when I checked it for misting an hour ago.
Edit: For the next PF Tek, I'm going to study up on the water tubs you all have linked me

Nice to see you have some pins coming in. Being new, and yet to start my own journey, I like seeing when other noobs have some success.

Well thank you Have you gone through all the stickies here yet? I did a shotgun approach and started multiple teks at the same time, trying to beat the odds. But PF Tek has so far been the easiest, by a mile.

- Remove foil. No need for foil when you have a lid.
You could raise the cakes on a cooking grill and replace perlite with an inch of water. See Water Tub Tek for fruiting BRF cakes. With a water tub there is no need for misting or any kind of maintenance.

I have the foil on there for identification purposes. There are several strains running in the same tub. You can't see it, but there are names and dates under the lids on the foil.
Yeah, I'm planning to run a water tub on the next batch (I have 8 more BFR Jars colonizing right now. While I know I'm running up hill with the perlite, I'm going to stick with it for just this tub, mostly as a learning exercise.
Thank you for the advice though! I'm currently reading through the water tub tek and it seems like its a ton easier.

You could use the lids to add water at the bottom of the cakes. Remove any standing water that is not absorbed after a couple of hours.

Interesting! But... these lids have holes
Unless there is something else I'm not understanding... Maybe cup the foil too to keep the water in for a couple of hours and dump both the lid and the foil?

I've assumed that lids have no holes. You could cover the lids in foil to hold the water.

Ok, so update question: I started making the foil "boats" to soak into the BFR cakes. More pins started popping and even one went to full fruiting (though it's pretty tiny). But, I have noticed that I'm only getting pins on the bottom of the cakes.
I've seen tons of pics here that show pins further up on the cakes. The cakes seem pretty hydrated now. (maybe even a little too... I drained all the water yesterday, and then found more water in them this morning and dumped them out again)

its pretty common for cakes to fruit at the bottom. doesnt look like you did a very good job of coating your cake in verm, that would have helped

Yeah, as we have discussed numerous times, this was unfortunately a kit. Their instructions did not include adding verm. I assume it's way too late now?
Next go around with the other jars I have colonizing, I'm using the PF Tek guide from here, and a water tub.
Good to go on the pins. Do you think they will ever pin up top? Mostly I'm just wanting to make spore prints on these for later use.

nah its not to late whenever you want you can pick those clean, soak them, and roll them. i sometimes scoop a pile of wet verm on top, you could do that right now if you want
never put too much pressure on a grow, this is gonna be one of hundreds
