Rubiaceae plant identification? * 1
    #27983837 - 10/05/22 11:06 PM (1 year, 3 months ago)

Hey guys, might not be posting in the right forum.. so apologies in advance.

I was wondering if anyone here knew what species of plant this is? Or even genus? It appears to be ornamental, looks very similar in ways to Psychotria sp.

Thanks!

Definitely the right forum. Looks related to Gardenia :strokebeard:

Looks like Clerodendrum laevifolium, native to Asia, has some use as an edible & in traditional medicine.

Typically grown only for ornamental blooms, tho

At the very least you’re spot on with Clerodendrum. I’m thinking it might be Clerodendrum wallichii now, although I’m finding them hard to tell apart at this stage

They’re synonymous.

Im not crystal clear on the history, but I believe wallichii was described in 2012, but was later found to be the same as laevifolium, described 1952.

Either way, two names for the same plant.
