I am sure that just trypamine would also work. However you can't buy it at the grocery store or anywhere else for that matter so there is no reason to even speculate. I am no chemist either, but I think that the trypamine is attached to a HCl to make it more stable. The HCl is easily stripped off in a chemical reaction during the growing process.

Thanks guys... I checked the solubility and yeah, tryptamine isn't water soluble so it looks like tryptamine HCl is the only way to go. I'll post with my results and such after the experiment is overwith.

PS. As a bio student I have access to alot of chemicals, tryptamine and tryptamine HCL included.
