When I first started with this species I tried doing them in XLS-A bags. That didn't work. At all. I got like a few fruits from each bag and that was it. Then I tried shoeboxes, this time with a thick pseudo casing of coir. I compressed my substrate pretty well and as soon as the massive overlay formed I misted it generously. I simply unloosened the lid and created a small air gap, the mushrooms took care of the rest by pushing the lid upwards granting more FAE gradually. Glad to finally have success with these

You guys are doing the damn thang, and y'all are doing it right! Much respect to all of you!
I hope to be sharing some fruiting/harvest pics soon, but right now I got a jar going that I could really use some insight on.
First, does the myc look right?

Compared to cozmyc's jar in the post above, the 'celium in my jar looks real wispy, yeah?
Is that normal?
Second question is, would you guys say it's ready for a shake? Or, due to the wispy nature, should I give it more time?
Final side-question, does everyone else also somehow get multiple "inoculation points" from a single, relatively small, wedge?
Actually, one more question, could I get the winning numbers for the next mega millions drawing? Only kidding, of course, but that's what I feel like asking all these questions of you guys. Like, "hey, you guys wanna serve me the world on a golden platter?", and for that I apologize.

It does seem pretty wispy, but a shake will only tell you one way or the other
I say shake them!
shake the jar like a MF and some of the myc should break off the wedge to create more noc points.
or check out Hams: Blenderless Liquid Inoculate to get more from a single plate

Dude, thanks for the speedy advice!
Yeah, the wisp has me worried. What has me hopeful, though, is the fact I have no idea where the wedge went after I first 'nocced it up. So I think it's somewhat possible that wedge is in the center of the jar and I'm only seeing the peripheral growth. Is that reasonable in your opinion?
All the inoc' points that you see in those pics came from a single small wedge, with the jar only being shook once so far which was the 'noc day. And, hey, 'preciate the link!

It does look wispy but Nats are weird. Do you have more experiments going behind this one just in case? How long since you dropped the wedge?

It looks really wispy for Nat myc imhm, shake it see how quickly it recovers.
Regarding multiple inoc points from one wedge: I like to have the wedge against the jar facing inward. To do this it sometimes takes a lot of shaking. When this happens I do get loads of leap off points.

The myc is wispier from the unintended inoc points, so....

I did a lot of nats on proso millet, and sometimes it would be pretty wispy, but then it would send big rhizo gyphae here and there. I believe it's due to the hard shell of the grain. I don't shake when it's as colonized as yours, and I'm not a fan of shaking in general. Btw, all ms spawn was rhizomorphic, and only clones sometimes would be wispy.
