I have some oat jars that look exactly like this. I spawned slightly bacterial jars into 6 qt CVG, and one in a shoebox at 1:2.

The other ones I have are looking kind of wispy with some uncolonized portions of grains against the sides of the jars. Around 60% colonized.

In the end I think it was because I didn't vent my PC properly or a lapse in sterile technique.

Point is, my jars look almost identical to yours and they are colonizing the tub and shoebox quite nicely after 24 hours. You may have some luck. Oats can be tricky.

Thanks.  I will spawn tomorrow.

The crap in the top of the jar is myc that separated from the grains in the multiple shakes.  This jar was incredibly aggressive in recovering from a shake.  I am sure there is some bacteria, but I am not sure what I am looking at to see it.

I have 9 other jars from this batch of oats where all but one other are barely getting started and they all are totally clear.

While I was considering g2g, because the other jars did not start, lo and behold all but one started growing myc.

Like an idiot, I did not label these jars so I am making the bet that the colonized jar is GT while the others are APE, PE and B+.  It will be interesting to see how the others get on.

I hope to get some fruit!

I spawned the jar today.  Yup, I get it's likely bacterial to an extent.

It is mixed with ~1:3 straight coir, lightly tamped and leveled and I then added a 1/4" layer of straight coir.

The tub has 3 holes near the top on the short/handle sides and 2 each on the long sides about 1.5" up from the substrate. The lid is closed.

Can someone please let me know what I should do differently at this stage- ie. Should I cover the holes with mp tape?

Thanks!

Very likely bacterial.

No need to toss you prob will get fruits in a tub. Maybe do 1:2 spawn:sub ration to be on the safe side. 1:3 is also fine.

Hopefully you spawned these OP. They do look a little bacterial but not so bad that they won't produce mush. Got an updated pic of the tub?

Edit: Never mind saw the post of you spawning them after posting this lol. Would still like to see the updated pics should be close to 100% by now.

Thanks for checking in.  I'll post pictures tomorrow.  It's not quite 100%.  The substrate looks essentially colonized, but the surface still has a couple of spots to fill in.  Tomorrow is 7 days.

So far the surface looks like myc and coir.

Here is the current state of the tub. I have no idea what im doing regarding providing proper surface conditions, but I'm assuming it's more important at this point to allow it to fully colonize.

Please let me know if there is something nasty I am just missing.

Oddly the picture quality is terrible. There is no gray in the tub... that must be shadows.

Just keep surface conditions up and leave it alone. Time will tell.

Here is where I'm at.  This is at 11 days.  I know I should be seeing beads, but I don't see them. I am not sure what I need to actually do.

I taped the holes (covered 1/2 of each hole and completely covered one hole on each of the sides) and have left the tub alone.  That seems to have helped a bit, but still no beads?

There are other jars a day or two away from spawning, some quite a few days away and my pftek is chugging along.  I have GT that appears it will be ready to spawn first and PES that is coming in a close second place.  The others are steadily moving along, but slowly.

I also have agar plates in a couple of states (T1 that need a T2, and a couple of plates that I just started from spores that need a couple of days before a T1.). I have to make more plates!

I think I see some surface moisture in the first pic  if those dissappear,  mist lightly other than that, any day now

Thanks. Will do.  I am also taking a second transfer today of my candidate plates.  I’ excited I am moving toward knowing my spawn is clean.

14 days and not a single pin. As far as I can tell, the surface conditions are what they are supposed to be. I'm at a loss.

The myc is all white. The grey color is just a shadow. I'm trying not to touch the box at all.

I am also making progress with my agar work.  I am trying to get to clean B+, GT, PE and APE.  I am on T2.  This was a T1 plate that I took a couple of samples from.

A couple of questions:
How many grain jars (qt oat) can I make with a single plate? Do I use a plate per jar or some fraction of that?

How many transfers is it normal to take from a single plate?  I took 2 to create new plates.  Is that normal?

Once I am ready to go to grain, is it better to make another plate that would act as a master and create a slant of, or is it better to clone the fruit back to agar once I have seen the performance of the fruiting?

I don't like these zip locks.  I have the damnedest time taking a small sample for transfers (I am old and my hands shake) and the depth of the cup makes transferring a pita.  Anyone want about 30 cups?

Tub just will not pin. 14 days. [Re: Bobgas]
    #28018772 - 10/27/22 07:03 AM (2 years, 2 months ago)

14 days and not a single pin. This morning I was also greeted with yellow myc piss.

I have no idea what else I ought to be doing other than waiting. Surface conditions look correct to my noob eyes. At what point do I start to consider abandoning the grow?

Not sure you're being patient enough, some tubs take well over a month to fruit.

Another question. Checked in on my PF tek and found this pin!  I was letting it consolidate and thought it still had a couple more days.

What is the best think to do with this cake??  Based on what I read, I can birth it, funk it for a few mins, put it back in the jar, case it with coir and put a plastic baggie over it. Is that the right idea??  Should I do something else??

Thanks!!!  You folks are awesome for being as patient!
