Dosing, the eternal question of dosing and potency
I'll throw my 2 cents here.
- First time I took 27 grams fresh. Fruits were 1 month old. That was a very strong level 4 for me. Trip lasted 3h30.
- I tried 2.2 grams dried, from the same batch as above. Dried 24 hours, stored in double vac sealed bags with desicant and 02 absorber. Trip was an easy level 4'ish - or strong 3, trip lasted 2h30.
- I tried 2.0 grams, same as above. Had only 1h30 of visuals. Very mild trip.
These were all from the same batch. And it's a clone.
I got spore prints from this clone. Put one to agar, and 4 containers are just about to pin. So soon-ish I'll be able to test different mushrooms.
On a funnier note, I've tried to replicate Nichrome's bucket:
Quote:
Nichrome said: [...] This bucket is about half way to where they finished. Was about an ounce in the end from that first flush.

And got this:

But who doesn't like a close up of a nice Semperviva fruit?

What's really interesting - to me anyway - is that I totally neglected this bucket, as in I didn't mist the fruits morning and evening like I do for the other grows, and this time as you can see caps curled up a lot! Whereas by misting them, they didn't.

Keep at it LT. Persistence has paid off for all of us. I had several failed attempts at these before getting some nice flushes. Their being slow doesn't help. Many months of waiting in all the retry efforts. It is worth it!

Wow, that's a vast difference between Melgo's potency and what others say. Do you happen to have an insane natural tolerance or something?

Well.. 0.75gr and being in outer space.. vs.. 2gr with some visuals..
Hmm...

These things differ wildly in potency then.. will start with 0.5gr in time.. don't know what to think about them at the moment.

I saw the same and figured either there might be a vast differences in potency on the subtropicalis based on age and genetics, or Melgo might have a high tolerance but I doubt that because my friend who took my Subtrops does have a high tolerance. Not crazy high or anything but above average and 2g turned him into vapor. He is talking about doing half a gram or 3/4 of a gram next time and it's hilarious to even hear him say that.

So mah boys are growin'... Lookin' THICC, mah boys...
Gave'em boys some good ol' waterin'. Love my ugly fellas.
So you guys sayin' I should let them sit for a month then? They are few, so it would be a shame to miss some gain in potency.

I want to say it took them like 3 maybe 4 weeks to pin, and from pin to harvest was another 3-4 weeks. Longest of any mushroom species/variety I have ever grown. I didn't harvest them until they started dropping spores and darkening. I probably could have let them go longer.... it's just that my instincts have been honed on cubes, pans, and tamps which you know you have to harvest soon after spores drop and they start getting dark, and if you don't they turn mushy. The same is likely not true with Subs - or rather it is but the time between spore drop and them getting mushy is probably a lot longer than we are used to.
I have my first grain jars of two different subtrop clone cultures that I plan to put to CV tomorrow. I'll be more scientific this time about tracking duration. I will report back.

I honestly don't think so. When I trip with people, I give them the same dose as me, but adjusted with their weight - and so far so good, people had a good time. I haven given Semperviva to anyone else yet, but next week I have a friend coming over to try them.

...
That's exactly when I harvested mine.
Keeping track of how long it takes for a jar of grain, simply cased with pasteurized cactus soil and put into fruiting conditions: 10 days on average. This one showed pins 9 days after being cased:

I'm trying with wheat instead of rye - because forget about the price of rye, and I get wheat directly from farmers. I'm actually enjoying it. Easier to clean, and the Semp mycelium seems to be colonizing it faster too.
I kept thinking about what Hindsight replied to me about contamination and healthy spawn. So I've sterilized my jars of grain for 1h45 instead of 2h30 - but at a much higher temp - and so far my spawn looks better. I'll know about the results in the coming weeks...
Will my cakes get taken away by the green monster?! Fingers' crossed they wont!

Interesting. 9 days is lightning fast. Makes me wonder if the slower pinners may be more potent then? If so, I must be fucking careful with mine

Haven't caught up on posts, tldr & too much work to do.
All my friends and I have eaten them dry. My inventory hasn't lasted long enough to figure out how well they keep, but I have a sense they keep well judging by how long they seem to keep while they're still growing... potency ime will be driven primarily by clone selection and length of maturation after the caps open.
I'm running several MS at the moment and will let you all know if there's a difference between my tested clones and MS fruits that have also had a chance to 'mature.'

It's starting, cased Sept 12

Oh and for anyone keeping track how many flushes of cubes I get before one flush of viva, here's that set of Avery's Albino bottles that were cased 7 days after the viva.

Ty, closer to 3 weeks though and it's only these two in one out of 3 bottles.
I'd say the timeline is shaping up to be the same as my first run at the start of the year. Which would make sense considering this is a clone

Congrats Adas! Applied a casing to 3 small bags myself today, curious how long I'll be waiting.

Some Semp 5 weeks and 2 days after spawning. They started pinning after roughly 13-15 days, canβt remember exactly. I wanted prints off of this run as itβs my first, so waited for them to produce spores.
This was spawned to CV 1:3.5. Thin top layer at spawn, all compressed of course. In a 23L EZ Dial. Misted maybe 2 or 3 times. Fruited at spawn.

3 bags cased (volcanic rock dust-, akadama-, hwfp supplemented), 10 quart shoebox spawned to bulk in open air.. hope it will not trich out before it fully colonizes, if it does, I'll just use bags.
