I love unexpected results, you know the science is good when your results contradict your expected outcome.

Very interesting results with some serious implications for people who already own this sort of hardware and who want to dip into grains. I've been running some small grows in a ninja foodi the past couple months and while the amount of spawn that can fit is limited and I'm not sure the yields for me have been much more pronounced than running a similar amount of pf tek jars, it has been a fun experiment to see just how far I can push the device.
Many thanks for putting in the time, money and effort into this experiment that helps put some definitive science behind all the ways we as a community are sterilizing grain!

With the amount of interest in these units it needed to be done. I cannot guarantee that other models of IP are as effective, nor does it cover other brands.
I was previously under the impression that instant pots failed validation (could have been a different model) so I'm glad that I purchased one to test myself.
Glad to contribute to the wealth of knowledge already found here, I'm sure this info will be useful.

I wonder if past tests were conducted using the sterilize function? I'm not at all familiar with IPs, but caught that in the video.

I didn't use the sterilize function due to the short timer so I used the pressure cook mode instead.

Oh, rgr.
The only previous test that I'm aware of was 4 hours with BI in a pint jar. I asked the person about it and I believe they failed to vent, whoops.

Oats have been added to the OP which completes cycle verification at 90 minutes and load verification for each grain.
I don't forsee other untested grains being any different. Millet should cover all seeds, wheat is very similar to rye, and corn is a large as any other ridiculously large grain

I just hope you have some of those vials left to test minimum times! Are you still planning those tests when you have time?

I should have enough, I'll likely order another box soon anyways.
Omw out to grab some pint jars so that the load in the IP is representative of actual practice.
I'll run the presto as well to test 60 minute cycle.

That's going to be interesting because I ran 500ml jars for years with a 1hr pc.

this is so bad ass, man. seriously youโre doing the lords work out here with these tests. really fucking sick to have some hard data on all this. super shocked at the IP results but honestly so stoked. if it opens doors for people to cultivate with what they have thatโs awesome. if thereโs ever any sort of fund to reimburse you for all this i would gladly contribute
on venting, thatโs something iโve recently been made aware of. i know the info has been out there, but when you read โvent for 15 minutesโ when youโre first learning to use your PC you kinda just roll with it. been doing longer vent times on grains recently & very curious to see how it changes things for me
thank you again p9. really amazing work

Thanks man.
So I have a pint jar running in the IP as we speak, 90 min cycle with 10 min vent.
Even if the 3 hour cycle ia whats required you can get 4 pint jars sterilized with almost zero effort. Flash prepped millet is a great combo. my opinion has gone 180 on this now that I know that it's actually capable as an autoclave it's a pretty convenient machine for low volume.
4 pint jars are all you need to inoculate 4 x 5lb supplemented hwfp blocks, so potentially a great tool for low volume gourmet.

I'm excited to see how the pint jars do in the Presto for 60 minutes. I want to run pints on occasion so I can fit more jars in the PC at a time and run a lot of different varieties for clone hunting but I don't want to run full 6qt shoeboxes.
Thanks again p9, you da man!

I won't be running pints in the presto, just the IP. Presto gets 1L jars for 60.
Coming up next.
