Why do you say that?

Same experience lower the dose, less effect, I am worried about going from 2 to 4g because sometimes it a real emotional roller coaster, I try my best at set and setting. How do you see the difference, I can’t completely remove my anxiety

When you guys are talking about 2 to 4 grams, do you mean fresh or dried?

My own experience: for about a week or two I feel great. Week three and four I still feel good. After that, the depression slowly begins to creep into my life. The problem with depression is that it doesn't occurr all of a sudden. It is so gradual that often times I don't realize I'm falling back into being depressed until it is already interfering with my life (maybe 2 or 3 months after).

I can't trip as often as I could because of multiple circumstances. Last time it was almost 6 months without tripping. I think the optimum for me would be every month or month and a half but I am rarely able to do it with such frequency. I usually will trip every 3-4 months.

With time, I have noticed that the physical symptoms are not as severe as before I started using the mushrooms. Even the last time when I went 6 months without using mushrooms my depression wasn't as bad as before I began using them. I have used large doses a couple of times (7 grams of some weak mushrooms I had and 4 grams of another batch of regular strength in another trip). I noticed the depression took longer to come back after the 7 gram trip (my 4 grams trip was just a couple of weeks ago). Having said that, I wouldn't recommend to simply jump in and try a large dose. I'm of the opinion that it is better to explore with gradual increases in the dose over multiple trips. It may take you months to find out the dose that works better for you. Last time my trip took me through heaven and hell a few times during the trip. I wouldn't call it a bad trip but it was very challenging. Would I go for another large dose again? Yes, but not every time I trip. The best dose for me may be around 3 grams but the trip experience is unpredictable. Some trips are all happy and with feelings of love and gratitude. In others I feel very annoyed and want the trip to end. But regardless of the experience I feel a lot better after I trip.

This is my own experience. Everyone is different. Let's see what other people have to say. Sucidal ideation was very frequent before I began using mushrooms. Now I rarely have those thoughts. Psilocybin really helped me.

Are you a caffine drinker by any chance?

It will ruin the bennefits.

Caffeine? Do you have any literature that backs this up? Or just personal experience?

Howdy stranger. Glad to find your post here.

Lately I've been realizing that mushrooms were helping me (long term) more than I realized. For a year or two I stopped doing psychedelics, and the depressive symptoms got worse and episodes were longer. Intense stress and sleep deprivation during my PhD did not help and were clear triggers of depressive symptoms (but not necessarily causative). When I did do mushrooms again, they had a clearly positive impact on my mindset and functioning for several weeks afterwards, maybe up to a few months. In general my doses were somewhere between 1-3 g cubensis, or an equivalent dose of dried truffles, usually a month or more apart. Didn't play around with microdosing, but I do believe it helped to have a solid trip vs a tiny buzz. There's some limited clinical trial evidence that suggests macrodose is more effective than micro for depression. Haven't tried "large" doses either, but if 2-3 g is effective I figure I would stick with the minimal effective dose at the longest effective interval.

I also started lexapro (SSRI) about a year ago (10 mg daily), it helped a good deal. I tapered off after 6 months under a doctor's supervision and relapsed into depression during taper and immediately afterward, so started taking it again and it's still helping somewhat. I will echo what another user said here: daily weed consumption seems to hurt rather than help, even though it feels good to dissociate from depressive thought patterns by being stoned whenever I feel like it. Kratom tea (made with 2-5 g crushed leaf, not powder, and strained before drinking) has been helping too but it's addictive and only works dose-by-dose, and causes withdrawal and possibly more depression when stopping. Excessive caffeine/nicotine probably fucks up my mental balance too.

For me, mushrooms thankfully still worked while taking lexapro though I maybe needed a slightly higher dose for the same effect. YMMV. Both psilocybin and SSRI's are thought to have significant effects on neuronal plasticity, aside from their canonical mechanism of action as serotonin agonist and reuptake inhibitor, respectively. This might explain why SSRI's take weeks to start working even though they increase synaptic concentrations of serotonin much quicker. From what I can tell about the latest research on psilocybin or synthetic non-hallucinogenic analogs, the state of neuronal plasticity induced by these drugs is most effective when combined with additional treatment such as cognitive behavioral therapy and improved diet/lifestyle etc. Seems like the idea is to take advantage of the period of time during which there's an increase in neural plasticity (eg. during and after the trip, or when SSRI's take full effect) with patterns of behavior that reinforce healthier neural connectivity/firing patterns.

Sorry for the long post just happy to share my thoughts/experiences.

Long story short....

I was abused both physically snd sexually as a child which surprisingly I pushed down fairly deep and still managed to live a good life through my teens and 20s. I am a combat vet and former sheriff which all had its affects with my psyche as well. It wasn't until my early mid 30s did the "trauma" come back to haunt me. Started having bad marriage issues, cheating and treating my wife bad. My relationship with my son started to go down hill as well (I never laid a hand on my kid but started to become short and negative with him and started noticing affects) eventually got to the point of suicide. Tried therapists, psyche meds, quitting my job and doing something less stressful and i stayed in my "funk". Started using mushrooms and completely transformed my life. Now that's not to say I still don't struggle...I'm still working on myself, ALOT!

I find the depression and mental health starts to decline about 2-3 months post psychedelic dose. However I have noticed more and more time goes where I don't need to use mushrooms because each journey I come out with lessons learned and healed from past trauma, it's like a 6hr trip feels like a decade of therapy. My relationships with my family are great, and most importantly the relationship with myself and the world has vastly improved. So every couple months I like to hit the reset button and dose....figure taking a night by myself 4-6x a year beats a daily medication that makes me feel numb. I'm not handicapped by the mushroom or rely on it but use it to enhance my view of the world and incorporate the lesson learned into my daily life. Am I perfect about it, hell no! But it's become something that I no longer need, but truly enjoy doing!!!

Thanks for sharing, MountainDweller. Glad to hear it's helping you so profoundly.

Just curious, are there times where the mushroom trip pushes you further down the hole, rather than pulling you out of it? I know some trips are difficult but I've always come out of them in a better place than before, but worry (irrationally?) that someday it'll go bad and stay bad after?

Personally no they don't. I'm a firm believer that the power of the mushroom resides within yourself and how yoy utilize it through responsible use. For example set and setting, using it wisely, not being careless, etc... not to sound woowoo but I've learned to treat the medicine like a religious or spiritual practice/ritual and when this practice is respected I don't come out the other side worse. Again, this is when it is treated and used respectfully and wise....even if I'm just looking to have a good exploratory journey and not focus so much on healing (which always happens regardless lol). Set and setting and listening to your gut on when/where.
