How long do you avoid depression after psilocybin? 1

I've only tried psilocybin a few times but so far am a believer.
Being plagued with depression and PTSD, mushrooms let me enjoy life again. For a while.
I'd been trying them about once a month. I've been unable to use them for over two months, closer to three, due to life circumstances.
The last couple weeks I've found myself having thoughts pop up like, "wouldn't it just be easier if I was dead?" and a general feeling of depression creeping back. I've had those thoughts in the past, to the point where I was considering listening to them, which is why I attempted psilocybin in the first place. They're nothing I want to act on, and I'll have an opportunity to utilize the magic that's mushroom medicine again soon. Not worried for my well-being. Just trying to figure out what mental health maintenance looks like.
My question is, for those using psilocybin to crawl out from depression, how often do you used them? What kind of dose do you use?
Thanks all for the help.

My own experience: for about a week or two I feel great. Week three and four I still feel good. After that, the depression slowly begins to creep into my life. The problem with depression is that it doesn't occurr all of a sudden. It is so gradual that often times I don't realize I'm falling back into being depressed until it is already interfering with my life (maybe 2 or 3 months after).
I can't trip as often as I could because of multiple circumstances. Last time it was almost 6 months without tripping. I think the optimum for me would be every month or month and a half but I am rarely able to do it with such frequency. I usually will trip every 3-4 months.
With time, I have noticed that the physical symptoms are not as severe as before I started using the mushrooms. Even the last time when I went 6 months without using mushrooms my depression wasn't as bad as before I began using them. I have used large doses a couple of times (7 grams of some weak mushrooms I had and 4 grams of another batch of regular strength in another trip). I noticed the depression took longer to come back after the 7 gram trip (my 4 grams trip was just a couple of weeks ago). Having said that, I wouldn't recommend to simply jump in and try a large dose. I'm of the opinion that it is better to explore with gradual increases in the dose over multiple trips. It may take you months to find out the dose that works better for you. Last time my trip took me through heaven and hell a few times during the trip. I wouldn't call it a bad trip but it was very challenging. Would I go for another large dose again? Yes, but not every time I trip. The best dose for me may be around 3 grams but the trip experience is unpredictable. Some trips are all happy and with feelings of love and gratitude. In others I feel very annoyed and want the trip to end. But regardless of the experience I feel a lot better after I trip.
This is my own experience. Everyone is different. Let's see what other people have to say. Sucidal ideation was very frequent before I began using mushrooms. Now I rarely have those thoughts. Psilocybin really helped me.

Thanks vp123.
I think that will likely be my experience as well. In a perfect world I wouldn't need to do it that often. But it's a lot better than not having it as an option.
Has anyone found anything that prolongs the effects?

I found large doses less often work better for me I usually only trip a few times a year now 3-5 times a year gives me a better base line then microdosing does. I had issues with addiction and depression for a long time been clean from boy for awhile now and only use mushrooms and DMT. I find it keeps my mood stable but like I said I only do it a few times a year but I usually do a relatively large dose.

I grow a few different strains mostly just try them but my favorite is the Cambodian strain and my average dose is 4 grams if they are weaker like Golden Teacher 4.5 to 5 grams. Basically I am looking to achieve ego death or the classical psychedelic experience of being transported to another reality. I hate the term hero dose but a dose large enough to be gone.

Interesting. My last dose was 4.5 g ms cubes. My highest so far. Happened to not be a pleasant time, but taught me a lot and relieved the depression for a while, definitely worth it. Still not sure I'm ready to jump in that high a dose right now. But maybe. Planning out my next therapeutic dose and trying to figure out where I'd get the longest effects.

Yeah from the people I have talked to dose seems very subjective depending on your current mood and as always set and setting. If you have not tried microdosing that maybe something you might want to look into I didn't find it helpful plus I was worried about building tolerance. I have been told you don't need to worry about that but it still worries me I like to be able to have a religious, ego death, complete reality changing trip a few times a year and I don't want to possible effect my ability to do that.
I was on lots of antidepressants and anti psychotics serequel, depakote, lithium, all kinds of ssri's none ever worked then after a trip I noticed I was better for awhile happy again able to interact with people and open up again didn't think about it much then it happened again and I got clean and have been I only do shrooms and DMT now.
I know depression can be hard to explain to people it's not just being depressed if you think shrooms or natural medicine can help go slow and start low with dosage. I might also add if you still smoke weed you might want to consider stopping doing it from time to time is one thing but smoking everyday depressed me and it just keeps you sedated.
Well I wish you good fortune on your journey and best wishes.

If my long ass post wasn't clear start low go slow and don't feel like you have to do a certain amount. Do what you want to do and ask for help when you need to.

Have you tried microdoses instead of trips since life has you unable to trip as frequently as you’d like?

I have. It doesn't work as well for me. I tried it in the past when my depression was more severe. The larger doses have been definitely more helpful. With microdosing some days I had the feeling that it worked a little. Other days I felt nothing in terms of improvement.
A couple of times I have taken moderate doses (1 - 2 grams) that allowed me to keep going until I found the occasion for a deeper trip. But after one of my larger doses I did not have the need to take that moderate dose. Last time I was able to go almost 6 months without the moderate dose. I am experimenting with myself and I think the large doses had made a significant difference.

The antidepressant effect lasts 3-4 weeks for me as well. If I forget and let life get in the way the lowliness starts creeping back in.
LSD can last longer if I take higher doses, but it takes a whole day to recover from that, I often can't afford to miss a whole day.

An evening to myself, a cup of tea and a great reminder of how much beauty is in the world. Especially trees. And especially music.
I feel very fortunate to have had an experience that slaps the weight of my heart, even if it only lasts a few weeks. For right now that's enough.
Thank you all for your support and I hope everyone else suffering can have safety, health and peace.

I ate 7g in June and was still doing well when I had 6.5g last week. I am hoping that will get me through the long Idaho winter because I only do them outdoors when its warm. When I am inside things go downhill fast for me.
