Cool cluster. Strong genetics right there. Spread a few of stem butts around for sure.

Mr Piggy said: The formula is simple, in European dune grass or in woodchip beds in landscaping. That does not require gas. I walk around portland and find them in wood chips in landscaping both in yards and parks. If the large lake you were searching around did not have those habitats, you were looking in the wrong space. They do not occur in the forest randomly.
Nah I was checking all the local parks where they all had hardwood chips. Probably something like 20 parks and adjacent areas and also urban areas around this lake
Nada. I live in the middle of nowhere so I kinda have to use gas to get to the urban areas where these guys like to grow.
I'll have more time to look soon. I just...I'm trying to think of where I *haven't* looked. I am wondering roughly how many days of rainfall I should wait. I guess maybe two.
They tend to like it under plants that are seated in soil with hard wood chips on top
I have looked at all the areas I know where these are, I guess I will need to expand my search
Portland is traditionally warmer? Idk, I guess all of PNW was hit by the cold snap. Socal is like 45 degrees. Or it was.
I don't know much about cyans besides
1) I can identify them but I can't find them lmao 2) they are potent and I would love to just be able to see one. Like, forget the fun aspect, it's neat to see finds that others have found, but I wanna find one. Gosh...must be cool. I think I may know where to look.
But even like traditional mushrooms and random, I don't see those really anywhere. How much more rain? I think it rained twice in one day. I just remember reading that they pinned 15 Oct like clockwork usually, but a weird start to the season. Rather...delayed.
I shall continue my search when I am more rested
Edit: although honestly, I am considering getting 4 2x4's, some potting soil, vermiculite, alder wood chips, a tiny shovel, and spores. Lol.
I bet money the majority of decent sized towns/cities have activity somewhere because there’s a lot of people that have been spreading them for years now. I swore off hunting in my city because I had scoured every bed for two years straight and found nothing. A member on here told me where he had planted some cyans. I went to check it out, and in total disbelief found a patch tucked neatly in the corner of a Walmart parking lot. They were probably there the whole time I was looking, but these were fruiting later than I had been looking so I could’ve just missed them before. People usually spread them in high foot traffic areas with hardwood mulch. This can be parks, shopping centers, near ritzy golf courses, nature preserves and housing developments. The best bet is shaded, irrigated spots with ground cover plants. These mushrooms grow slowly so I’d wait a week after a good soaking rain, but if conditions are right it could take more like 10-14 days (in my experience) to fully mature. It’s been super dry all up and down the west coast, so right now only certain microclimate areas are fruiting. If you get some good soaking rain over the course of a week or two conditions may improve. The mushrooms will find you soon enough.

Also, the cities tend to have more people out looking for them and tons of foot traffic to spread them around. They’re out there in most places. If you look consistently in the right places, they’ll find you. If you can find anything on iNaturalist or mushroom observer close to you check spots surrounding those locations.

Don’t worry Mystery note writer, I’m just out taking pictures, not picking pins. But I feel ya.
And yeah, PDX is abundant. I promise all of you, way more of these rot in the ground every year than are ever found. It’s been a rough year, and cyans haven’t really had a shot in most places due to their slow growth and need for consistent conditions, but they are out there. Microclimes microclimes microclimes.

This is the reason I’m working hard at cultivated patches. It’s not as fun as hunting psilocybe, but you don’t have to worry about people sliding in and raping your patch.

Oh that’s awesome. They are good people. PNW Funguy was first person I’d met from here. Was wondering if those two were still together and hunting.

Yeah barely anything in Florence. I did find a big boy that was 2.5grams dry and his little siblings. Left a few to grow till frost. For the first time sense I was a wee boy, I'm actually gonna have to buy some to last the year.

Looking good. Seeing some matures that were protected under some leaves. I’ll post pics when the snow hits em.

Here are few pics from yesterday (11/28/2022) afternoon of Cyans growing in a public site in a City not far from the Puget Sound. Today they are now being covered in snow.
