I've got agar dishes that are about a year old in the fridge. Will they work?

Hello! I had agar dishes that I left in my fridge from nearly a year ago (Oct 21) that initially produced a very dense amount of fruits. I got busy with work and here I am, a year later. I wanted to inoculate some grain spawn bags I just prepped.

Does anyone have experience with agar dishes working a year (or more) later?

I don't, but have been told a year is about the upper limit. That mycelium will be very weak and damaged. Your best bet would be to take one (or more) transfers and let it waken up and gain its strength and vigor before putting it to work. Best of luck

I'm currently using LC from early September last year that is running great. Gonna try some LC from July 2021 next.. not agar but I'd say there's a chance. Try it and find out!

A picture of the plate will help in making a guess.

If the myc is doing to colonise a plate when you transfer it will colonise grains fine.  If it's not going to then you would loose time, because the grain can be re-sterilised.

I'd do what BFCreepyUnc said and do some transfers, and then put the agar to grain as well.
