Mycobag/Autoclave Bag questions...
    #2786206 - 06/11/04 07:56 PM (21 years, 14 days ago)

Alright AFOF decided to go w/ Autoclaveable bags to grow with, however seeing how highly they are priced, he looked into preparing his own bags when some questions popped into his head. Since he doesn't have an PC, he was wondering if he could boil or even microwave the sealed bags w/ substrate in them to sterilize them. He had read on this forum that it was possible to microwave them, but he was unsure as to how long, and if he should do anything special in the process. Also, he was wondering what mixture he should use in the bags, because he has seen numerous recipes on the forum. And his final question was whether he could seal the bags using a vacuum sealer used for foods. He had also seen on the site that a lighter or iron were also ways of sealing the bags.

My Friend of a Friend would greatly appreciate your replies and advice!

What kind of bags did you make them out of. They have to be oven or microwave safe or the pc is gonna fuck them up.

Ahhhh....good idea. I thought you were making them from oven bags. Going to mycobag is the way to go.

Well what mix should I make w/ the mycobags if I were to fruit in bag, and can they be sealed then sterilized by microwave? Sealed then sterilized by boiling in a pot? How would I do either of these methods? Thanks for your help!

Hi, a friend was thinking of doing something very similar. They just don't know what substrate and method of sterilisation would be most suitable for a shroom noob with no experience, nor much money. Any hints would be appreciated.

using wild bird seed is cheap and easy.
Just get some from a pet store, then buy a pressure cooker and impulse sealer from ebay which shouldn't cost much. Use an overnight soak and drain method for the wild bird seed. If ur mycobag has a filter then u can seal it before u pressure cook it. Then pressure cook it for 90 minutes at 15 psi. Wait for bags to cool then inject...  p.s. make sure u shake and mix the bird seed after pcing them. Also shake and mix again when bag is partly colonized to spread the love.

Ummm mycobags are 30 cents each man..

pc, seal, inject and tape. Why re invent the wheel? You can't pre seal mycobags because they pop. BOOM! A flow hood is nice so you can fill the bags with clean air before sealing. Mycobags are more for bulk, you dont really need them unless you have a a few flushes under your belt. Otherwise jars are much simpler but lower volume. Example, mycobags increase my volume of spawn 2.5X per PC run but cost me $150 for the 100 bags, sealer (ebay), hepa filters, and wood for the flowbench ill be making this week. Jars cost me $9 for a full set of my pc and not even a dollar worth of polyfill and foil.
