Let's see the can

It's a 32 gallon trash can lined with mylar, I had to add a spacer when my plant got too big. The lights are par38 LED bulbs, the other thing is an air purifier that I already owned that I'm using for airflow and carbon filter.

When I read "grown in a 32 gallon trash can" I pictured the trash can as the pot, not as the grow room.

I like it though.

Yea, between record heat, water shortages, power shortages, all around doesn't seem like a friendly place for growing. The thousands of illegal grow ops are just as bad as home depot if they're willing to sacrifice resource sustainability for a profit. It's clear to me indoor growing cannot last. And water, pesticide, phosphorous use in outdoor grows should also be regulated. Probably after national legalization allows for more dispersed local production in communities that still rely on Cali.

I agree massive indoor is probably not going to be sustainable until we wise up and start using solar energy as a main source of power.  Certainly not running out of sunlight with climate change.  I think water is going to be a much bigger issue than power as we move into the near future.

Have you done the math by chance? I used to think the same thing, that eventually indoor could be self-sustaining with solar panels and aquaponics or something.

I crunched the numbers on the power consumption of my 10x10 foot room, divided by 100w solar panels. It would take a 10:1 footprint ratio to solar power my 100 sq. ft.
1000 sq. ft of panels is more footprint than the entire property my grow is located on. It's not feasible even under the most ideal current tech and conditions.

I don't have the data to calculate a vertical farming operation but I highly doubt any indoor operation could be truly sustainable. To indoor grow all the weed in the world's consumption would take a solar farm the size of Germany or something.

I'm basing it on the rapid advancement of solar technology and changing code.  As the american SW dries up solar will start replacing a lot of hydro, use what ya got.  There will be no shortage of dried up land to place solar fields on, and I would not be shocked if in the next five years California implements new building codes requiring new houses to be built with solar roof tiles.  You think they won't tell people how to build?  It's california

Seven years ago most professional growers were convinced that LED would never ever replace HID, and they all now grow with LED.

I also think people value pleasure and recreation far more than they do any kind of sustainable operation.  We waste so much farmable land growing tobacco, grain for shitty, shitty, shitty, shitty light "beer."  Think about all the water that goes into growing, harvesting, processing, fermenting, packaging, and shipping all of that.  By comparison a cannabis grow can use less water when done correctly, especially closed systems.

Honestly though I'm just running on pure speculation.  The older I get the more I don't know, pretty convinced at this point that I don't know anything

All I know is the past five years have been a wild ride and it ain't slowing down, it's going to be real interesting to see where things go.

I got some of Hobbits Tatooine Donut & Apple Cider Kush transplanted into 1g pots of Promix. Feeding Mega Crop and kelp from Greenleaf Nutrients. I'll be sexing in the veg room, where temps average 73°ish :crankey:

They're about 3.5 weeks today. I always label pots before transplant but 9/10 times I space out and use the wrong pot and don't realize till its too late.
:sped:
5 on the left are ACK, the rest are TD.

Yay!
That's so cool. Makes my wife happy too to see that. They all look like they are doing great. The Tatooine donut are on F2 so you should get some variety.
I'm excited to see this. Thx

I was pretty sure that you had alrdy ran these numbers sometime prior and put em in this thread or somewhere.
I find your number crunching so sleek
Solar tech would have a long
Long way to go to enable full reliance for our consumption esp in thus "hobby".
I think the true key is to dial in a "minimum" setup producing just enough to supply ones needs without sacrificing quality, and not pushing a space to its highest limits.
Ofc then ppl deciding their own "needs" becomes an issue.
I think we discussed trying to optimize a setup to run it all under 1000w or something, to be a reasonable action ground

That's about how my dad's look. Fat buds all over it. Same with the indica one. It took a lil longer to form but they are stacked all the way up and growing into single colas. Huge long colas.

Looks good guys.

Change the mantra to its ready when it’s ready. Trichromes are mostly clear with a few amber from the pictures. Much better pictures too. I almost miss the soft porn shots.

Used someone else's phone lol.  Ya you are right.  Doing the noob thing going by posted grow times even though some call flowering 7-10 days after flip some immediately and different conditions I know.  I did some poor planning now I'm starting to stack up without light room

It works okay but it still has some smell in the room. A real inline filter would be much better probably. I originally bought the air purifier to put by my cat litter box lol. I didn't want to spend much on my setup so just thought I'd try it.

I feel like they are to close to the light or something the way the tippy tops are growing.
Foxtail then the Foxtail start clustering at top.
Am I wrong or is that a symptom?

Foxtailing started at the tops now more around the base of the buds.  30 inches from top of cola to light.  Turn it down to 95% after the nanner
