I love my lights. I wouldn't be able to do any of this without my lights. Outdoors is cool and my dad's plants are big. But there's dirt, bird poop, bugs, ect..
I love my indoor and I know the yield is different plus the terpene content changes from indoor/outdoor.
I'd like a greenhouse grow. Best of both worlds then.

And water, pesticide, phosphorous use in outdoor grows should also be regulated. Probably after national legalization allows for more dispersed local production in communities that still rely on Cali.
The legal grow ops are causing just as much, if not more damage to the water table and from run off as the illegal ones. The real shitty part about the illegal grows is a good number of them are cartel run and they use slave labor.
I agree massive indoor is probably not going to be sustainable until we wise up and start using solar energy as a main source of power. Certainly not running out of sunlight with climate change. I think water is going to be a much bigger issue than power as we move into the near future.
Then there's the problem with facebook mega servers sucking the wells dry for their cooling systems. That entire company is a plague, fight like hell if they try and set up in your community, their disregard for the safety and health of locals where they set up is borderline malicious.

Lol it’s the beginning of September
And yet I've got a big plant with heavy bud set that's due to be ripe in three weeks or less

Genetics are a huge help in bumping up flower time, and growing in pots helps the root restriction kick them in sooner too. My potted plants with the same genetics as my neighbors are weeks ahead in flowering.
I grew a handful of strains this year from sep finishers to a sativa dominant BB#3 that probably has ten weeks left
Normally I grow a bunch of indicas that finish in mid oct, but I wanted to branch out this year and try a bunch of new things. The blueberry hill beans I bought from herbies are in no way an F1 like they claim, they have wildly different phenos showing from each bean. There is a winner in the mix so far, but we'll see if her super fruity/berry smell survives a cure. She's my tall plant that is closest to finishing flower. Great big buds that are very sticky. The other two phenos are kinda meh. One has stringy growth with meh sized buds that smell kind of acrid and not appealing, and the other was a very weak grower at first but has rebounded and filled out her raised bed. Her buds are appearing to be on the rather small side and she is progressing slower than my usual indicas, I'm dubious about her chances of finishing unless the rains hold off. Her buds also have a very ho-hum smell and don't do anything for me at this stage. Hopefully she can rally and put on some great scent soon.
I even remembered to keep clones and make mini-moms with the blueberry hill beans I popped. I'll hold on to all three until flowering is done, but I think I found my early flowering sep winner.

I haven't really kept up with the thread this time around, and haven't posted much about the 3 little autos I had going outdoors this summer...
...I think I mentioned it a few pages back, but I took down two of the autos earlier this week. I kinda lost track of the days, but they were taken down somewhere around 75 days from sprout.
Mango Smile and Strawberry Mango Crumble (which is Strawberry Nuggets X Mango Smile).
I grew the same strains from seed last summer in a drastically different climate (highs of 90F to 105F & lows of 60F to 70F, humidity around 15% during the day to 50% late night/early morning, sunshine the entire time and direct sun all day long) compared to the climate I am in now (highs of 60 to 70 with a few 75 degree days, lows of 50 to 55, humidity around 90% to 100% at night and around 50% to 80% during the day, mix of sunny and overcast days and the plants don't get direct sun all day on sunny days).
They turned out about 2/3rds the size of the plants I grew last summer in the much hotter climate with way more sun. The flowers seem a bit less dense (just looking at em', haven't really gave them a squeeze yet), but they are still very resinous and seem to be equally as terpy/aromatic if not a bit more complex/richer aroma.
The Mango Smile had red-petioles on the fan leaves that were really pretty, and as the plant grew older its fan leaves turned purples and pinks and eventually dark indigo/black. Its flowers also have little tints of purple. The SMC was a lush green but it's flowers are a mix of bright purple and green...Neither of the same strains I grew last summer had any hints of purple at all, assuming it is because of the cooler climate and/or different phenos.
Not huge flowers, but I'm impressed with how they turned out considering the less than ideal climate. Seeing how these plants turned out I am looking forward to doing a bunch of autos next summer...having plants finish up here in this coastal climate by early/mid September is nice.
Mango Smile

A Dragon Fly with matching aesthetics/colors as the MS

And I came across some older pics, here's a throw back to my very first grow, one of the first plants I grew, Tangieland....

I ran out of space for pics/uploads, will get a pic of the Strawberry Mango Crumble posted eventually.

Have you done the math by chance? I used to think the same thing, that eventually indoor could be self-sustaining with solar panels and aquaponics or something.
I crunched the numbers on the power consumption of my 10x10 foot room, divided by 100w solar panels. It would take a 10:1 footprint ratio to solar power my 100 sq. ft. 1000 sq. ft of panels is more footprint than the entire property my grow is located on. It's not feasible even under the most ideal current tech and conditions.
I don't have the data to calculate a vertical farming operation but I highly doubt any indoor operation could be truly sustainable. To indoor grow all the weed in the world's consumption would take a solar farm the size of Germany or something.

Spirit that looks so frosty.
Openmind I like those mango smiles & cross
Ok so here is my 2x4 that 2 plants hermed. Don't know why. Dry pots to long, 110f heat one day, or maybe light leak by my PA. Idk.
I check daily now to pull any 🍌 🍌 🍌 I find. I find a couple every time I check. I think the buds are bigger now and the pollen would only seed that bud. Man the plants all got seeded so far besides apple cider kush (man her smell is so unique, sour pear cleaning chemicals)
Here they are

My favorite in this tent (also my favorite in the other tent) Apple Cider kush

Yeah besides the seeds.
They fuck up the potency, the terpenes, the weight.
It messed this grow up that's for sure, but they all still look good & I'm hoping it don't mess with potency & flavor that hard but it is what it is.
