I'm not sure what you did here but there is a lot of moisture in there and yet the grains look dry, or something. Not sure what you did there but you can take the foil caps off.
If you continue to have difficulty with boil preps I'd recommend switching to seed spawn like wbs, etc.
Give them a good shake.

I've had corn jars like that, no Bueno.
The corn pictures in the opening post are very good, the shot of the good corn jar is pristine.
I link to that one if I need a perfect example 😉

You soaked wheat for 45 mins? Thats your problem right there, don't soak wheat, don't soak rye. Boil to hydrate.

okey dokey p9.
it was a proven tek but it din't prove well for me. I'll berl up 8 3T bags [75x - 4 hours] and 10 jars [presto 2 hours] worth and try again. forresgter said that the shit may work withg reishi, so i am giving that a go. I had what looked like 8 bags of overhydrated wheatfter sitting in the lab for two days, the bags look pretty good.
cheers, mate. grateful for your time and knowledge.

I read a number of teks, some promote soaking some don't. The most recent ones were all boil-only and that is what I have used. Due to the source of your grain and the hydration percentages it comes with plus altitude and the power of your stove and volume of water (IE once you dump your grain in, how long does it take to return to full rolling boil), your hydration times are nearly always going to be different than stated in a tek. BUT for you they should be mostly repeatable (within 2-3 mins) once you get your own specific time down (assuming you use the same grain, same volume of water, same amount of grain, same stove etc). For rye I just boil 20 mins and then every 3 mins I pull a couple grains and slice them open with a sharp knife. I strain once I can just barely see a bit of white inside (when it looks like 2-3 more minutes of boiling would eliminate the white). Strain 5 mins then spread out while still hot on a table that has a plastic sheet cover, with a bed sheet over the plastic. I use thick BBQ gloves (heatproof) to hand spread the grains out as thin as I can. Let them steam 15 mins and they will be dry to touch. No fan needed.
One thing on hydration checking - there is a part inside the grain that will always remain white or yellowish. It's either the radicle or epicotyl I think. That's not what you are looking for. You are looking for hydration of the cotyledon - the main bulk of the inside of the seed. If you cut a seed after 10 mins of boiling, you'll see the distinct difference between the little piece that stays white/yellow, and the rest of the inside of the seed that looks fairly chalky when not yet fully hydrated.

This ^. I boil roughly 15 min on wheat and take ~5 grains out every couple minutes after that and cut them open, looking for the majority to no longer be starchy white but before they burst.

So have been loving this thread and have read every word maybe even more than once. Have had multiple bouts of trich rearing it's ugly head and have chalked it up to a bad culture and/or bacteria but without a clear understanding of what "slightly" bacterial spawn looked like.
That being said have always used Fooman's WBS prep and after my latest bout of cousin Tammy have gone back to make sure my grain prep is on point before trying to diagnose further. Re-reading Fooman's tek,
[url=https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/8508523/fpart/1/vc/1]
I can't help but notice the jars he's holding up as proof of success and as far as I can tell by the standards set in this clean spawn checklist they are bacterial AF? Not trying to stir anything up but think I am just more confused then before about what I'm looking for. Could someone clear this up for me please?

So I guess my ultimate question is does Fooman's tek for WBS work consistently or am I getting under sterilized i.e. bacterial spawn on a more regular basis than I would if I switched to a different method? Only things I have changed up is I go 17 to 20 psi for 90 minutes which I would have thought would increase the tek's effectiveness. However, I also rinse and dry my WBS by fan after the soak until it passes the paper towel test so as to avoid wetness in my jars post pressure cook. Is leaving the seed damper than I normally have been the key to better sterilization success with this tek?

I'm not sure what the questions is but 90 mins is not sufficient imo, it should be considered the minimum threshold and not the standard.
2-2.5 hours should be the norm and is what I and others recommend for 1qt/1L grain jars. I haven't read foomans tek in quite a while but I'm sure that his method works just fine.
My recommendation would be to increase the amount of time that you vent your pc from the minimum 10 to more lile 15-20 mins as well as increasing your cycle from 90 mins to 2-2.5 hours.
