Is it normal to get plate pins in around 20 days? From MS? So thats 20 days from inoculation with spores to pinning. Normal?

for me is normally 5 or 6 weeks to get plins.
3 weeks could mean contam, last-ditch effort to reproduce. Got a good photo?

Another possibility is your parafilm / cling tore and introduced air exchange, this nearly always results in plate pins.

A good photo. Nope not at all. Not from lack of trying though. But I do have a photo.

Yessss! This makes me very happy! I learned to not soak the rye for 24 hrs and/or to let them dry more than my first batch. This batch is 4 days younger and about double the growth of my first batch already. I assume you must get this balance of water about the same in the tub too. I'm excited to learn that part too. Probably experiment with moisture levels my first go at it.

Got some pins in my melmac 'TP' bags

There is more, in all 4 bags of TP. Idk if they will be great. Raised from cold storage. Agar looked great Liquid Culture looked great Bags looked great
Once opened they had a weird smell. The sweet rotten apple smell. Ya know the one if you've had that issue before. It's a bacteria or mold. Lost 5lb bag of melmac 118 on top of it. The other 5lb was split into 2 bags to fruit. They aren't opened for FAE yet.. look good tho.
We will see how it goes.

Maybe keep an eye on this one. That lighter bit of growth at the bottom looks to me like it might be myc, or might be cobweb. If it explodes with light growth at recovery, it's mold.

It's such a punch in the gut when that happens. hopefully you can topfruit and get a little something before they're overwhelmed. Gonna be tougher with the longer time needed for PE though. Whats a tp bag? or is TP a clone name?

No FAE. Parafilm is doubled up and plates are kept in a tote. I think hidden contams are more likely. How do I proceed? Just wait for a decent sized pin and try to clone and clean from there or what?

Tp is 'thick penis'. A sub.var. of melmac. It's melmac. Just different name like 118 is also melmac.

From a South African vendor I despise....
Natal "extra" strength.
"Unfortunately another example of where something is named for market hype. Natal super strength is the natal wild cubensis. Extra strength is a name some guy invented in his mothers bathroom. Here it is if you want it."
That is the actual site sales pitch, talks shit about a made up cube and then sells it, because why not.

Those guys have some drama going on by looking at the R1 (~$0.05) sale page.

So I made my first ever batch of rye spawn too wet. My second batch was perfect, not that I actually know what that is, but it was much better. The Myc in the dryer batch is growing super fast, the wet stuff is slow. Is there anything I can to to dry out some of the wetness? And will it be ok, just grow slower?

Wet grains alone won't ruin your spawn, but dirty inoculum, improperly sterilized grains (not pc'd long enough), and poor sterile technique will.

I'm gonna try my 3rd cultivation ever and I've choose the following way: LC + popcorn grains with no PC in shoeboxes. My doubt is: it's enough to spawn the grain in just plain coco coir (as substrate) in the shoebox? Will that be enough or do I need also vermiculite and gypsum? I'd gladly avoid also having to find these last 2, are they necessary?

You’re not going to sterilize your grains? I’m not sure you’ll see much success that way, to be honest.
Yeah straight coir is a fine performer. Vermiculite is good to have to adjust moisture content, but if you get field capacity right in your coir then you don’t need verm. Gypsum isn’t really used much anymore, so don’t worry about that.
