Tale's From the Shed
    #2793888 - 06/15/04 04:10 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

My cat's best friend Buster McNasty recently decided to start a growing operation in a small wooden 7'X 5' shed. The temps around here are at about high 80s low 90's duriung mid-day and about 70s at night.

He suspects that the shed may become a little too hot to keep a growing chamber so he devised an idea. If one were to install circa 4 or 5 fans in various places throughout the shed and then pipe water from an outdoor hose into a reservoir trough at the bottom of the shed fitted with a given number of air stones, would that maybe help drop the temperature? He's willing to install a cool mist or ultrasonic humidifier but right now the matter at hand is the temperature. Do any of you guys think that by piping in cold water and having fans blow on it, that could make an optimum growing environment.

Criticism is encouraged  :sun:

Well I did this crap for a lot of years. You'd be making a giant swamp cooler. Now if you can't exchange the water all the time or put a cooling unit in it you may get it to drop 10f or so but keeping humidity up will be a issue then. May want a small window shaker ac unit.

It would work better if you had some kind of wick or grill for the water to run down then placed fans in front of those. They pull the air threw the grill, wick, whatever and pull it threw the water at the same time. (or get a pre made one at home depot  )

Mag, i have one of those Evaporative Wick-type air coolers, and it only drops the ambient temp down 12*F. It's a small one though. ( i dont use it much, because the drastic increase in humidity makes my living room too stuffy, and feels hotter.

You could also run the water through a radiator, and have a box fan blowing through it. Similar to a swamp cooler.

A big one wouldn't be much better. Unless you like moldy walls.

So you think maybe a wick humidifier would work a little?

Or maybe installing two?

Its the perfect area for me to grow I just want to be able to get optimal temperatures. Any other ideas?

Rather then the two wick users I'd go with the standard cool mist, ultrasonic combo.

Magash a foaf was thinking about using this combo. What he was wondering is how much do u think the temp would drop in a bedroom closet?

Def go with the window a/c. If your temps are that high, dropping the temp to a good level is going to need a/c. You'll get growth, but it won't be great.

imho

Wouldn't a window AC introduce fresh air into an environment where at times you dont want fresh air such as spawn running?

No not unless it had an outside air damper and you can seal it off...the problem with any ac system is it lowers the humidity
