Hello everyone, I'm new to the boards, and new to mushrooms in general. I have no experience hunting mushrooms, or expertise in the subject whatsoever; however, I have recently become extremely interested in them, and would love to learn as much as I can. Today I went on my first "hunt" in some woods behind my house, and took several pictures. I did not pick any of the mushrooms, or spore print any of them, and I have no idea what species any of them might be. However, I hope you enjoy the pictures, and I hope to learn alot here. Thanks! (P.S) I live in Central Arkansas (if that might help with any I.D.)

Thanks for the compliments guys. It's really humid around here, and after going hunting for about an hour and a half, I couldn't stand to be outside anymore. (Came home to find about ALOT of ticks on me)...So it might be a little while until I can get back out there and check out alot of areas I might've missed. I need to buy some better bug-spray and shit. I guess the shroomies love the humidity though.

Number 8 - looks like a False Chanterelle. Hygrophoropsis aurantiaca; however, it could be a chanterelle or something else; this is only my guess.

Number 17 - Amanita muscaria. Some people eat them recreationally but research how before you do so. Some of the otheres look like Amanita muscaria too but this is the most obvious example.

Number 18 - It looks like a Bolete. Boletus edulis(King Bolete) but it seems a little early for them. Take a small bit, chew in mouth, if it is bitter, it is not a King Bolete. The omnipresent retriculation is there (netlike ridges on stem). If it bruises blue, once again it is not a King Bolete.

Amazing hunt! Especially for a first-timer. I am shocked. I only bothered IDing the somewhat obvious ones. Do some research on each one to see if you concur.

ya, those are obvious amanitas. And the lack of gills in that one pic would also say Bolete. I love those red shrooms...the pics look awesome. Hopefully the forest up here will bring up some bright-colored shrooms in the fall.

Lots of Amanitas. The last picture looks like a textbook example of Amanita virosa (The Destroying Angel), they?re quite deadly. Infact, if I had to guess, you?ve got a few deadly mushrooms in that batch of pics.

The funnel shaped bright red mushrooms appear to be Cantharellus cinnabarinus, a very good edible mushroom. To confirm the ID, you?d need to look at the underside of the mushroom. Chanterelles have veins instead of gills... Here?s an example pic:

Thanks everyone for your comments. If indeed those are Chanterelles, there were quite a bit of them spread out along the side of where there should've been a VERY tiny stream (there was no water in it).
Gumbydude, when you say "bright red funnel" etc., are you referring to pictures #2 and #13?

That's a huge amanita selection. Some parcivolvata, brunnescens(agian- textbook pic.), a blusher (or two), caesaria, and I think I'm jealous of those little red beauties (the cantharellas-them's gonna be good). Wonderful to see interest in the whole array of hunting interests.

These guys look close to Amanita caesarea.

Happy mushrooming!
