deterring a bear 1

I was reading online that bears hate the smell of pine, that by spraying pine essential oil discourages a bear from entering a camp site. So what if I made some kind of concentrated pine tea and sprayed it in my backpack and stuff? Or maybe smudge my backpack with a pine bundle or just throw pine needles in my bag. Would that help to keep bears away?

Bears go into pine forests. They climb those trees when young and scratch the bark of pine trees. I'm not sure pine needles would do the trick. But pine sol could work.

They say a bears sense of smell is better than a dog and that certain smells they dont like, like ammonia. You know how people spray thier packages with anti-dog spray to help keep dogs from sniffing thier packages? Well theres gotta be something bears dont like, that they rather avoid if smells bad to them

Just hang all of your food and trash from a tree ~12' off the ground and you'll be fine. Best way to keep them away is to not attract them in the first place. Get a can of bear/pepper spray if your really worried.

Its not the food I'm worried about. Its my clothes, body wash, deodorant, backpack and tent. The place I'm going to is notorious for brown bear. I bought an entire new wardrobe and backpack, ect just for the trip. I work on a fishing boat and everything I wear and have smells like fish, no matter what part of the boat its stored on. Ironically, I'm going to this part specifically to fish. I'm not trying to do a millionaire status of renting 200$ per day motels, so I'm gonna ruff it a good deal in a tent at one of the camp sites. I'm talking into precaution things like deergent, soap, bodywash scr and of fish and fishing gear. Specifically I'm aiming for Bristol bay. I hear its killer ass fishing there.
So maybe like a constant fire or something. Anything to discourage a bear from coming into camp

.44 mag, 12ga with slugs, .308, etc. Hungry and/or territorial bears don't give a fuck about your deterrent. Hang food/clothes/smellables from a tree, keep a clean camp site, cook food/wash dishes far away from your camp site, and so on. But when it comes down to it you still need to be strapped in bear country, especially with brown bears. They truly do not give damn.
Make plenty of noise around camp and especially when you're hiking around. Startling or sneaking up on a bear never ends well.
My wife and I were supposed to be going to Seward, AK this June to get 'officially' married but we simply can't afford it this year. Which pisses me off because we were going to be there during peak Halibut and King season lol. Wish I could go with you! Be safe out there

I just realized all the spelling errors. Dammit. I was going to go to Seward and the kenai fjords as well. Sometime after 4th of July, I'm trying to be in Naknek. Also Hitting keys points in Valdez and the susitna.. also wanna go to the arctic and visit katmai if I can. Trying to go hard like my ninja Jeremy Wade.

All this talk makes me wanna get to Alaska as quickly as possible. redundant cause I'm already here

Jeremy Wade is a straight-up thug lol I would love to even be the guy that has to carry his gear around for a season!
Edit: who would win in a fight - Jeremy Wade or Steve Irwin?

I wondered if oven cleaner would deter large cats and bears.

Bleach or ammonia both have strong smells and apparently work to repel bears. Keeping a portable radio in your camp tuned to talk show also supposedly helps keep them away.

I always like to start a small smudge fire when I stop to set up camp somewhere. As a way of announcing my presence and warding off any potential encounters. Smoke=fire=Danger=stay away.

If a grizzly is comin' after me you better believe I'm pissing/shitting myself...involuntarily, but I'm doin' it
