Calling all Classic rock experts
    #2793149 - 06/14/04 07:58 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

I need a bunch of songs that are trippy, acid rock, psychadelic, acid folk?? ya know. I'm compiling the ultimate CD and I know that I will be missing alot of the more "unknown" songs (or rather the ones I dont know of), and they are just as good if not better.

Feel free to list the popular ones too:

Some examples of what I'm looking for are:

The Doors - The End, Riders on the Storm,
Anything by Pink Floyd,
Simon and Garfunkle - Sound of Silence, Bookends, The Boxer, Scarborough Fair,
Donovan - Hurdy Gurdy Man
Jethro Tull - Aqualung
Fleetwood Mac - Gold Dust Woman
The Beatles - Let it Be, A Day in the Life

thats what I can think of off the top of my head.

yeah, ya know. Songs that are meant to narrate drug trips

Thanks for the help

I have a few beatles for you, that boogle my mind most of the time.

"STRAWBERRY FIELDS" The most important one here
"While My Guitar Gently Wheeps"
"Octopus's Garden" Very uplifting and cheery
"Here Come The Sun"
"In My Life"

And "Glass Onion" .

These may not suit what you're looking for, but these are my ALL time favorite tripping songs. Well, The Beatles and ANYTHING Final Fantasy related.

Get one of Charles Manson's albums, although not quite trippy in itself, good ol folk rock with some tangents into some interesting prose(babbles alot about saving nature and the planet), it's just knuts knowing who the source is.

(4/5 star customer rating on amazon)

"All the Way Alive" by Charles Manson. This is Manson's 1967 demo recordings before he recorded "Lie."

"Lie: The Love and Terror Cult" by Charles Manson. This is the famous album with the cover that looks like the Life magazine cover. The copyrights are supposedly owned by Phil Kaufman but he says he doesn't receive any money. I'd assume all copies are probably bootlegs except the original 1970 pressings.

"Commemoration" by Charles Manson. Various songs secretly recorded by Manson in prison.

"Manson Speaks" by Charles Manson. A CD of Manson speaking on various topics.

Listening to Charles Manson babbling on and on would probably be one of the things I would LEAST want to hear while tripping.

To the OP, since nobody's mentioned him, check out some Jimi Hendrix. Not sure what you're looking for, but while the music itself isn't that psychadelic (IMO), it's definitely influenced by psychadelics. Pretty much anything off of Axis: Bold as Love is great.

are you experienced?

great album,

Usually when i trip its either:

Grateful Dead, or Hendrix, or me....
SANTANA - soul sacrifice.
oh yeah, i dont understand how you cant see the psychedelia in hendrix, just listen to the guy play... its complete psychedelic chaos, while not in the manner that the dead do it, its still very there.

To name a few hendrix tunes:

1. House Burning Down- electric ladyland
2. Wind Cries Mary- are you experienced
3. I dont live today- are you experienced

YOu must download santana - soul sacrafice.

As far as PF is concerned, start with the first 2 albums (which had Syd on it) Songs like Astronomy Domine, Arnold Layne, and See Emily Play are good choices. You might want to try some songs of Syd's solo stuff like Octopus. I always liked Set the controls for the Heart of the Sun, although non-Syd esentially, still an awesome song. The moral, check out the older stuff, pre Darkside(although itself a must)
