oldest spore print you have used?
    #2793015 - 06/14/04 06:55 PM (13 years, 11 months ago)

I recently tried to get back into the game, the only prints I had were made back in 1996, on index cards, laminated with masking tape after folding in half. Well none of those three prints worked out. Just curious how old of a print you guys have been sucessfull with?

My oldest was 17 months, but i've read of people using them up to 20 years old somewhere on here.

I've seen most literature say that spores remain viable for up to 4 years in a refrigerator, and a few months in the open.

Many years.
I've used a five year old sporeprint that was sitting on a shelf the whole time, no refrigeration. Just mix the agar a bit wet, so it will hydrate the spores.

5 year old azure print kept dry in the refrigerator. It germinated as well as a fresh print. I have a paper describing agaricus bisporus spores germinating after over 30 years under the same conditions.

I've found prints that are older than 7 months old to be quite sketchy at best.

There have obviously been exceptions though, as Workman and others have pointed out.
