Yeah, those fuckers caused me to lose a bunch of cultures and plates. You'll definitely be able to tell if they are there if you see any HG plate with mycellium that looks like it's been partially eaten at the edges (away from the center). In my limited experience, I've seen they can easily munch away large portions of Panaeolus myc, which is much more whispy than cube myc.
After a long while, they also reproduce so much that you can see the clumps of mites with the naked eye (they look like tiny white/yellowish discs). If you have any microscope, you could easily check for their presence too.
I hope you don't have them, but if you do, you definitely need to solve that problem or it WILL get out of hand. Either way, good luck!

So when I take these out the PC, I can hear some air pressure equalizing since the jar is still hot after the hour. Is this sucking dirty air into the mason jar I have them in? I feel like that would be a major point mentioned since they are to be PCed while loose but there's so much to read in this thread I havent seen that yet if anyone even has mentioned it.

Yeah the agar containers but I was wondering about the quart jar. Not sure if that is supposed to be closed fully or also loose. Guess I probably don't even need a top to it and can just put the jars on a metal plate and hang the jar over it

Okay I made these in 2020 and sold a few on ebay. Here's a way to never have to open the plate until transfer. Use liquid cultures or spores. I never used them but they are just brilliant I think. Just wanted to share this with you guys so you can play too.

I was gonna do the exact same thing to mine, but I didn't want to do anything to obstruct the view, plus I'm getting a flowhood soon anyway. Those look pretty professional though
And also side note yeah I figured out for sure the issue I was having and it was trying to put the agar in a closed quarter container during PC and it definitely was sucking in dirty air to equalize. I just set them on a plate in the PC with no bottom to the quart jar and they are all still sterile it's just kind of a pain to get them out the PC if I can't just pick up the jar itself, until I get a metal basket or something with handles to put them in the PC cuz it's so cramped in there.

Ok I got one final question. Plates are all doing well now, but I just decided to try some with charcoal the other night and a few came out like this, where in some the charcoal was pushed away from the mix and I ended up with these splotchy bald spots.

Could I loosen them a quarter turn and microwave them for just enough to melt the agar to reblend so it's uniform throughout?

exact same as hg, just larger. and yes I pc them just like the hg.
only issue I had was i stacked them too perfectly in the pc a couple warped together, the bottom of one and the top of the one underneath

I know the whole point of these containers is not needing to modify them,
but does anyone run these like a normal no pour and modify the lids for ge/fully tighten during pc?
I don't like leaving lids loose and these would still be great no pour containers even modified
I don't see why it wouldn't work well or anything just wondering if anyone else runs them modified

I used some modified ones for no pours, but I like this way better. You don't need to keep them loose if you don't want. They just gotta be a little loose during PC. And the residual condensation will still eventually go away with the lids tightened.

Hi Alien, is there a minimum recommended height of the pp5 dish? I see it's 1" in the OP, but would .7" work as well?
Same with the maximum height, would something more than 1" in height work?
By "will it work" I mean, will I be able to use the dish for successful transfers to agar?

these containers are about 1” deep, I don’t think anyone recommends filling them to the top.
I think even half way full is too much

thanks for the reply spg, that makes sense
what worries me is that because they are too short, something unpredictable might happen, like more condensation or something else
i'm going for 0.7" anyways

oh you’ll definitely get condensation, there are a few techniques to help reduce it
but for me I just wait it out, condescension goes away pretty quickly.
a few plates are usually pretty clear and by the time I need to transfer the condensation is gone from the rest.
