A mate and I have been out a few times hunting in the Newcastle/Hunter Region. We've checked 2 different pine plantations (one stretched as far as the eye can see!, well it was just huge :> ), lots of woodchip beds around town and in front of shops etc, natural forests along bushwalk tracks (occassionally venturing in to promising areas), a mates farm in cow shit etc. Probably spent around 5 or 6 hours walking and looking.
For all our efforts, we have found a few unidentifiable LBM's (none of them blued, gave them a few hours to do it too). I wish I could go hunting with someone who has been out before so I would know what to look for and to give me hope (it's so annoying not knowing if they exist at all).
All I want to know is if I'm wasting my effort, do they even grow in my region? Or am I too far north? Am I looking in the right areas?
Had another hunt yesterday, walked through another pine forest and checked out a few woodchipped garden beds.
The forest turned up two different species, a large dark orange mushroom that fruited off rotting pine stumps in troops, and a single tiny(2cm cap) bell capped white stemmed fella (bruised yellow, green gills, does that make it a Galerina?). Probably too dry around atm but at least I'm finding SOME mushrooms
