Shaggy Parasol in Seattle *PICS*
    #2791517 - 06/14/04 03:36 AM (12 years, 5 months ago)

I finally identified another mushroom that me and my girlfriend have spotted out at Discovery Park. We noticed a cluster of them a few weeks ago when we were out there. I brought one home and took some pictures and spore print of it. I'll post pics as soon as I can.
Then, when we went back the other day, we found more of them around the previous cluster, growing in some tall grasses. We also found a solitary one off of a hiking trail, growing in pine needles.
I'll try to get some pics of them in their natural habitat, next time we go back out there.

Shaggy Parasol,(Lepoita rachodes)

The audubon field guide says that their season is September-October, which is interesting. These mushrooms are a Choice Edible.

In the last picture, you can just barely see how the thick veil is starting to separate from the stem. As the mushroom ages, the veil stays together, but can be moved along the stem.

(sorry about the poor quality, i took the pictures off of my digital video camera)

Nice finds, they'll fruit Spring, Summer and Fall so long as conditions are permitting.  The rains have been bringing up quite a few mushrooms lately and I have a couple days off

Enjoy - @cro

Never cut it, so I don't know.  If I go back there this week, I'll cut one and see.

LoL, no, I was asking @acro John.
