A question about cats 1

Do you guys think it's better to spay/neuter your pets (specifically cats) or not?
My cat is about 4 years old, and I think I need to get her spayed.
She has feline asthma, and we finally noticed a pattern. She seems to have really bad episodes for about a week prior to going into heat. I'm guessing it has something to do with hormone levels.
Do you guys think there are any benefits or negative effects from spaying your cat? I've heard some random things like "cats tend to gain weight afterwards" or "it can have negative effects on their overall health/lifespan" but part of me thinks it's just subjective B.S.

My cat seemed to suffer more before we got her spayed. She's going on 15 years old now and hasn't had any health problems that aren't normal for the breed. Never got fat either.
I don't think it's a bad thing to do.

Thank you, that's really good to hear

Just make sure you get it done by someone who does it right, I've heard if done wrong and not sutured correctly that's when you get problems. Maybe read reviews of the vet or whatever?

Absolutely. I live in a relatively smaller city, so it's actually very obvious from a quick online search which place is most reputable.
Do you remember how long your cats "recovery" time was?

It was many years ago so I don't remember exactly, but it wasn't bad at all, maybe a week or less?
