Let's talk about Texas and the issue with residual solvents for consumable hemp products
    #27909957 - 08/19/22 04:53 PM (1 year, 8 months ago)

So....I'm just starting a cbd business and I just took my product to the lab to get lab tested earlier this week. Got a tour of the facility and the front desk girl and I talked a good bit about the entire cannabis/hemp industry, a little chemistry, a little politics, even dabbled into talking about psychedelics and such. She was a young girl so I assume she probably has done drugs, at least weed at the bare minimum. She at least spoke as if she were knowledgeable about illegal drugs and obviously didn't care that I asked if they did LSD testing.

Anyway, during the part of the tour when she was showing me the area where the big expensive high performance liquid and gas chromatography machines are, she got talking about how even though Texas requires residual solvent testing for consumable hemp products sold in texas, Texas has not outlined A.) What residual solvents are, and B.) Which specific residual solvents are not allowed, allowed, and any ppm allowable and what not. Texas basically has not done shit with regards to residual solvents for hemp/cbd/delta 8 and other products.

So basically, for 2 years, since texas came up with the hemp farm act, they still have no fucking clue what a residual solvent is and which specific ones should be banned and any ppm allowable amounts. 2 years with no talks about it being done yet all the major labs have been asking what's up with regards to consumable hemp products.

I asked her, "So is this why my throat always feels weird the day after using one of those vapes from these cbd and delta 8 shops around here?" and she said, "Most likely."

So what's the point in paying huge fee's of $400+ to get a residual solvent test on your product if the guidelines don't even say shit about any residual solvents? It's required. A full panel test is quite more expensive compared to a basic $75 cannabinoid test. The most expensive aspect of a cannabis business is lab testing if their product is not already lab tested.
