"CLEAN ENERGY The energy in nuclear waste could power the U.S. for 100 years, but the technology was never commercialized
The technology necessary to turn nuclear waste into energy is known as a nuclear fast reactor, and has existed for decades. It was proven out by a United States government research lab pilot plant that operated from the 1960s through the 1990s.
For political and economic reasons, the technology has never been developed at commercial scale. Today, there’s an increased urgency to address climate change by decarbonizing out energy grids, and nuclear power has become part of the clean energy zeitgeist. As a result, nuclear fast reactors are once again getting a serious look."

France has one though that is in operation.
We are so far behind in Nuclear energy and it is because of the lefties outrage that has been ongoing over nuclear.

They look good too

Other benefits:
Ability to load follow (from 100% to 40% power within 20 minutes), making the plant complementary to maintaining a stable load on a grid that includes renewables
That's pretty quick. One thing batteries can do is instantaneously is smooth out that 20 minute period, which is why they're a great idea for grid stabilisation.

Yes nuclear weapons and nuclear power were seen as the same problem, especially here(Aus) and New Zealand.
It's interesting here now that the conservatives have finally acknowledged climate change, they are pushing for nuclear(as well as continued coal power) as they know they can wedge The Greens against the Labor Party on an issue(nuclear power) that now makes a lot of economic sense.

The thing with nuclear power is that it's still not renewable long term. The uranium will run out eventually.
Lefty communist california decided to keep its remaining nuclear plant operational, so that whole point isn't as valid as it used to be.
Also, there are forms of energy storage other than chemical batteries.

By the time we run out we will have Fusion.

It will take hundreds of years to run out, we have plenty of time to work on it.

Just the solar energy that hits the earth in a year dwarfs what can be extracted from fossil fuels. Clearly renewables are enough to replace fossil fuels, its just a matter of extracting and storing that energy in a useful form.

Yeah... no sweat. That's why we've already done it. No wait... we aren't even 10% of the way there.

You didn't say that we don't have the tech to extract and store renewables effectively enough yet. You said:
Quote:
Renewables aren't enough to replace fossil fuel.
That was false

Is absolutely true. What renewable can replace jet A for commercial flights?

Energy is energy, and it's there. Whether or not someone has invented a commercial jet equivalent powered by renewables is irrelevant.

We haven't done it yet therefore it can't be done? Pretty sure you know how shit that argument is.
The US has 5 years of proven oil reserves left at current consumption. It's going to run out.
I don't know what you replace jet fuel with. Electric rail and blimps or something.
