Do you believe that anything is possible?
    #2790249 - 06/13/04 05:59 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

By healing we use energy and direct it, filtrate and extract... by telepathy... well I dont know how that works really... when we astral project we are merely thinking about levitating from our body in the right state of mind. This goes to show that the mind is an incredibally powerful thing and with the mind alone it has been proven we can perform telekenesis which means we can have power upon energy with the mind. My question is this, do you think we could eventually do anything, like concentrate enough energy under our feet to carry us over water for instance?

Those are two different questions, do you think we could eventually do anything and do you believe anything is possible, and could easily have different answers. Anything is possible, however, until I see some real examples of telekinesis, walking on water, anything, I would say no to the former question, if you mean us as individuals. Maybe one day the human race will evolve and become a collective conscious, with new powers such as telekinesis and reversing time, but until it is proven much of it seems like bullshit, at least on the physical plane

I'm questioning the scenario being that we have these powers now but it will take time to find out about them.  If you think we have these powers within us.

Real proof?  I wish I could show you now but I have caused a necklace to swing with pure directed energy... its nothing big, but it does prove something (well at least to me, having seen myself do it, duh ), you'll just have to take my word for it, lol.
And as for healing, i've had amazing results on both myself and friends.  THis proves we have control of energy at some level, if we could concentrate it below us to push us upwards, the secret to walking on water would be revealed.  That is my theory to what jesus did if its true that he walked on water.

and with the mind alone it has been proven we can perform telekenesis

Not even close little brother. Other than some highly-questionable minor and non-repeatable statistical anomaly at Princeton, telekinesis has NOT been demonstrated. Hell, my $20k is still up for grabs (as it has for years) for someone to come move an object with their mind.

Do I believe that anything is possible?

Sure, in so far is there is a non-zero probability for (almost) anything. Our knowledge of the world is, after all, based largely on certain metaphysical assumptions. That the world exists outside of our mind, and that the laws of nature are uniform through time, for example. So, yeah. Nods.

I read an article in the New Scientist magazine a few weeks ago that said that there have been several statistically significant results with people trying to alter probabilities of random number generators etc. with their minds. One, apparently, managed to get an event which had a 25% probability to happen 30% of the time with over a thousand attempts. I was quite annoyed that they sorta glossed over everything else, didn't elaborate any further.

The big thing seems to be the "experimenter effect" - believers sometimes get positive results, non-believers never do. It's hard to believe that these people are cheating with the results on such a large scale, but its equally, if not more, hard to believe that they are actually demonstrating telekinesis.

The article was pretty crappy, left me with way more questions and no answers. It's so hard to find reliable data on this sort of stuff.

I think pretty much anything is possible, but probability is another matter. There's probably less than 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% chance of me levitating in the air right now, but it might be possible.

(Not directed at you)

To repeat (endlessly it seems as some struggle with the obvious), Las Vegas is expanding at a phenomenal rate. This is the largest ever, on-going PK test and the participants are failing miserably.

Anything is possible and if we examine the discoveries of Quantum Physicists we see that all the here-to supposed laws of physics break down once we look at things closely enough.

Anything is possible, the probability as SS7 says, is another matter...

Hence placing bets on the improbable is usually a losing game, as the patrons of Las Vegas have discovered.

Impossible is a strong word of weak people

Anyway - look at this article, even science is proving that impossible is possible now

The article is a bunch of gibberish not backed up by any science.

Swami, how would science ever further itself without taking into consideration that there might be things we've yet to understand?

If we were to take a drastic time leap, you would represent the group that believed the world is flat, because it had not yet been proven otherwise. This does not mean the world actually was flat at this time, however.

What say you?

*scratches head* Swami no get your point. I have an incredibly curious and inquiring mind. I do research almost every day on one subject or another. Any new idea must be accompanied by evidence (not stories) to be accepted. What is wrong with that?

If we were to take a drastic time leap, you would represent the group that believed the world is flat, because it had not yet been proven otherwise.
If I were inland, I would probably believe that it was flat along with everyone else. The point is that a story either way (flat or curved) only carries weight with evidence. Observation of sea-going vessels quickly tells one that the earth is curved.

BTW, did you read the article? It was a lot of fluff with no substance.

Nah, I didn't read the article, but my comment had nothing to do with the article.. I was just trying to get a general feel for your stance on science.

Let me rephrase a little: How would we ever find out that there is evidence to prove the earth is round if we never set out upon the sea in the first place?

At SOME point one must put faith in the idea that there will be a reason to make that journey.. this is the step BEFORE evidence is found.
