I’ve been in therapy off and on since my mid teens. It’s been 40 years. Most forms of talk therapy helped me maintain my sanity, such as it was, but made very little progress in healing the underlying trauma. 1 year of somatic experiencing coupled with EMDR was life changing. Adding mushrooms on top of that accelerated it even faster.
The great part about a great trauma counselor using these tools and being completely open to integrating psychedelic experiences as part of the therapy has almost relieved me completely of medical trauma from 3 near death experiences and trauma induced by extremely poor medical practice that led to these situations, but I’ve also unpacked most of the small traumas standing in the way of feeling like a more complete person.
Issues like emotionally distant parents leading to a need for praise and acceptance in unhealthy ways. Dysfunctional communication patterns that interfered with my relationships. Chronic anxiety and depression.
My close friends, family and colleagues have watched me become a completely new person in the last 18 months. I’m am so much more relaxed and at ease, and my sleep is more regular and restful.
My parents and siblings all want in on mushrooms. They’re already doing most of the other work themselves.

You otherwise wax poetic.

One person's experience ain't "science..." but I'm encouraged, at least, initially.
In contrast to a popular theory... I don't find all strains to be relatively identical. I finally grew some Blue Meanies (cubensis). These are intensely visual... which is a new experience for me. I took 6g of dried... and it was a good but strong trip.
So... my desire to drink has been... well, greatly diminished, since. Whether this is a placebo effect or not... time will tell. I plan to have one more "big dose" (FWIW, I think that 6g is as much as I ever want to take)... and then I'll follow that with micro dosing.
My trip-mate expressed that they've oddly lost their desire for wine (drink of choice).
We both feel calm. I've also felt strangely calm, focused, and productive at work. << SHRUG >>
Hoping for a positive trend.
