Also if you have enmeshed bacteria or mold that feeds off and with the mycelium in a symbiotic way WA wont help you at all.
What do you do when this happens? I just transferred off water agar back onto wbs agar.. All my cups look like this.

I donโt know what to do next.

I wanna help but those pics aren't good enough. You can't use a flash. Try using a white LED flashlight and taking the pic from different close up angles till you get something better. Also take some in a dark room with the flashlight back lighting it to show its translucency.
Stuff like this:

And as far as enmeshed go there's no way to tell until you goto grain and even then can only be sure if your technique is flawless and wasn't an error on your part. And FYI these cultures in these pics were enmeshed with bacteria and would ruin any grain jar they went in. The only fix was to go back to spores and start again.

They continued to be transferred and transferred even to WA and back again. They eventually all looked perfect. All I could do was blame the grain, or it's prep, or the pc cycle.
But after doing tests with blank grain jars and many conversations with Stipe and others I concluded they were enmeshed with bacteria. Next bacterial tubs that fruited I took some swabs, put them directly to agar, they were perfect by T1, went to grain, everything was clean, already cloned 6 monsters.
The new dishes don't look anything like those enmeshed ones. I have a theory as to what characteristics can be seen in these pics to watch out for but it's just a guess. And can be super subtle like in the first pic.

Put a speck of Natalensis myc from a PF tek jar onto a water agar plate. It behaved unlike other agar to water agar transfers I have done.
After a week, I haven't gotten that fine translucent growth I've come to associate with water agar. Not sure if it's a Natalensis thing or just what happens when going pf tek to water agar.

Have several other varities of pf tek myc to water agar going. Will have to see if they behave similarly. Perhaps it's just Natalensis being the monster that it is.
Regardless, is it too soon to transfer? Should I wait longer? Has the water agar done its job?

So I posted these in other spots and a TC said it looked like weak myc, due to its filamentous nature. You can see it on the edges. I had the same haze on the germ plates, and I thought it was weak myc at that point tooโฆ but another member diagnosed it as bacterial and being a noob, on to WA they went. Here we are at t2. Iโm going to trust the TC on this one (Nichrome). I may be just a noob but Iโve done hella research and some intentional contamination test runs before I tried to germ, so I knew what to look for. This haze doesnโt line up with any of the other obvious bacterial contams Iโve seen either.
All the donor cups so far smell nice and mushroomy too. I appreciate all the input. Just gonna let these guys run till itโs t3 time.

I believe some earlier in the thread germinated spores on WA. But it's not necessary. WA is just a tool you can use to try to get away from stubborn bacteria. Otherwise it's pointless to use really.

So Iโve had this Water agar for about 9 months, maybe out of the fridge for the last 2 months or soโฆ
Held it up to a light for shits and gigsโฆand saw these.

3 transparent discs of different sizes. They have a mirrored sheen at a certain angle and a slight convex shape. Obviously some sort of contam but nothing else visible. Really interesting.
You guys ever see anything like this before?
