That's a good idea. What do you see in this myc?

It looks correct, sectored yet uniform in it's structures. I like the 6:28 shoot especially if it keeps going towards the edge of the dish in a way that you can see. I also feel the same way about the just before 3:00 area.

Thanks for clearing that up. I'm going to germinate my swabs/prints on some LME agar instead. I didn't really understand the application for water agar.
I've only ever seen mold on my plates. (other than myc of course)

I’ve been told that WA is pretty great for reviving dried grains and getting clean transfers. If anyone has experience with using it for that, I’d like to hear your thoughts on it.

Water agar may save this culture! I had some grain that stalled. I let it try to grow for almost a month and eventually tossed it when the bacteria got bad. I put 8 small pieces on agar dishes. Those got nasty but I made some transfers, half to grain water and half to WA.
First picture is 4 nasty grain water dishes. Works fine for my clean cultures but these ones the mycelium was too weak and 4/4 lost the fight.
All the water dishes look like the second pic, super-fine growth that looks clean so far!
Disclaimer: I haven't done agar before so I might just be growing mold

How long should I expect good growth when using water agar? I have some TYC on WBS agar that were were bacterial. Did some transfers 4 days ago.

I made some water agar plates and have a very good one - the best one I've ever made so far(less than 50 )

I can't see any contam and have a question. Can I use it for grain spawn? (I'd like to try MS inoculation)

In general, I like to do two or three transfers before going to grain. Get uniform growth that I'm sure doesn't have hitchhikers. Hard to see the myc on there with the lighting.

New grower here
If I decide to transfer mycelium off a water agar pate to another one, should it be transferred only to nutritious agar, or do water agar to water agar transfers still work?
From my understanding the mycelium upon first transfer uses the nutrients in the piece of nutritious agar that it was transfered with and transferring a slice from water agar to water agar would result in no growth. Are my assumptions correct?

Well, spores will germ on water agar, so it's probably good for a bit just using energy stored within the mycelium. But it'll run out eventually.

Just learned about water agar. Planning on germinating spores on MEA, transferring to WA, then back to MEA. Got several transfers done already. Will follow up with pics but want to monitor thread until then.

The only reason to use WA is if you have a culture you already know has bacteria in it and normal nutrient agar transfers aren't cleaning it up. Germinating spores on or transferring to WA just as an extra step really isn't necessary.
Also if you have enmeshed bacteria or mold that feeds off and with the mycelium in a symbiotic way WA wont help you at all.

I got a spore syringe of AA+ that i've been having trouble cleaning up on agar, the growth is very dense and pillowy and probably enmeshed with bacteria. I got 2 shoeboxes going with those plates, they're not looking great, not confident they'll even fruit anything to clone.

Was wondering if it'd be worth a shot to transfer my remaining plates to water agar, to give the myc a better chance to outrun the bacteria.

So hard to tell in those pics what the mycelium looks like health wise. I've had beautiful rhizo dishes that were enmeshed with bacteria and WA didn't help anything.
Enmeshed is enmeshed it moves along with the mycelium. Not saying that WA won't work though cause it might.
It also could be some other problem in technique, grain prep and pc, etc.

Do those have any vents? It looks pretty wet in the dishes. Could be causing it to fluff up. Idk.
How did the spawn for the shoeboxes turn out?

So its been about 2 weeks and this is what I've gotten from water agar. The APE looks perfect. My troublesome Pan Cambo culture is seeming to continue being troublesome. Need to shine a light behind pics to see anything.
